Like most mobile gacha games, Pokemon Masters relies on instilling the fear of missing out to encourage players to spend real money on special characters with limited availability. For example, a "Summer Superstars" event earlier this year introduced unique variants of Hoenn Champion Steven alongside Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver protagonist Lyra, and now two trainers in Halloween costumes are on their way.

The "Fight or Fright" story event was announced today by the official Pokemon Masters Twitter account. It will feature Alolan Trial Captain and Elite Four member Acerola with Mimikyu, as well as Pokemon Black and White protagonist Hilbert with Mightyena. Both are dressed in apparel matching their partners; Acerola donning a fake Pikachu hoodie as Hilbert wears a set of wolf ears and fangs.

The event will center around these trainers collecting candy while having Pokemon battles, and further social media posts say Seasonal Scouting banners for them both will be "coming soon." Acerola's Ghost-type sync move will deal more damage to confused targets, whereas Hilbert's Dark-type sync move will raise his critical-hit rate after usage.

Though neither a start nor end date are given, it's likely the Halloween-themed festivities will begin soon considering the current story event based on Diamond and Pearl Gym Leader Volkner ends on October 14 at 10:59 p.m. PT. DeNA's Pokemon Masters recently added 'EX' to its title to celebrate the game's first anniversary this September, but a fall event was not hosted in 2019.

Niantic's AR mobile game Pokemon GO is also celebrating the Halloween season with events such as Legendary Raids to catch Giratina. Mysterious Red Eggs are also appearing in Pokemon GO, rewarding players with primarily Dark-type monsters such as Sandile and Pawniard.

Pokemon Masters EX is available now on Android and iOS devices.
