DeNA's mobile game Pokemon Masters has grown and evolved since releasing in August 2019, most notably changing its name to Pokemon Masters EX to celebrate its first anniversary. An update released today includes quality-of-life changes such as viewing a character's Sync Grid before attempting to scout them, and it raises the level cap from 130 to 135 for each trainer. However, the developers also released a mid-April message detailing new content coming through May 2021.

The biggest and most-marketed addition to Pokemon Masters is Hammerlocke Gym Leader Raihan from Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Dragon-type Gym Leader is known for unique weather-based tactics and for taking selfies during battle, and he has been Champion Leon's greatest rival since their days taking the Pokemon League Challenge. Raihan and his Steel-type Sync Pair partner Duraludon will be available to try and summon on April 27 at 11:00 p.m. PDT, which will also mark the beginning of a "time trial" in-game event in which players complete battles as quickly as possible to earn points.

His addition is being celebrated with an image of Raihan becoming the icon for Pokemon Masters' mobile app and its profile picture on Twitter. However, a video released on social media to introduce Raihan and Duraludon ends by teasing a two-part "Weather Alert" event starting May 5. It's clear Hoenn Legendaries Groudon and Kyogre will be featured given the events' focus on abnormal weather, and the fact their battle music from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire plays under the teaser.

Groudon and Kyogre are not the only Legendary Pokemon likely to appear in Pokemon Masters this May. The message from producers Yu Sasaki and Tetsuya Iguchi announces the "Father or Foe" Legendary Event centering around Ghetsis will begin on May 3. While it does not specify what Pokemon Ghestsis is teaming up with, Unova's Kyurem seems an apt choice. Players can also expect more Galar region trainers to appear in mid-May, suggesting there will be a lot to keep fans occupied going into the summer.

Pokemon Masters EX is available now on Android and iOS devices.
