The Pokemon franchise has seen many playable characters throughout its many games. No other protagonist in the series has been given such a legacy and an amount of respect than Red from Pokemon Red and Blue. Fans of the series would remember that iconic moment from Pokemon Gold and Silver of battling Red atop Mt. Silver after getting all the gym badges in the Johto and Kanto regions. Everything about the battle made Red feel like a legend that the player finally gets to meet. The third anniversary of Pokemon Masters EX continues the tradition of making Red feel like a legendary figure in the series.

Pokemon Masters EX pays homage to the different characters throughout the series. Red is consistently given a grand presence among the cast of Pokemon characters. Red's legacy can not be understated and Pokemon Masters EX plays into that. Red has had many Pokemon throughout the series, with his Charizard being the one initially chosen for Pokemon Masters EX. The large amount of DPS he does with Charizard plays into how much he has accomplished in the canon series. In addition to this, Red got a new variant with the anniversary.

This Sygna Suit Thunderbolt variant of Red is paired with Pikachu for the first time in the game. Many fans know that Pikachu, being the most iconic Pokemon of the series, is largely associated with Red along with Charizard, who also has a variant with Red. As mentioned before, Red has extremely high DPS. Sygna Suit Thunderbolt Red also has one of the best AoE sync nukes in the game along with high HP, good gauge, and good self buffs. This unit doesn't do much that other units can't do, but it does it very well which plays into Red as a character. Red, in canon, is a Pokemon master with no gimmicks up his sleeve other than just being an excellent trainer.

Red Finally Battles Ash In Pokemon Masters EX

In addition to Red's new variant being a strong unity, there is an event in the game that has fans of the series excited. A couple of months prior to the third-anniversary update, Ash from the Pokemon anime series was added to the game. Then, during a Pokemon Presents broadcast, the trailer for the three-year anniversary teased the possibility of Red and Ash battling. This is a battle that is 25 years in the making and had fans wondering what the clash could look like, with both trainers having similar Pokemon.

With the update out, players have the opportunity to see who is the better Pokemon trainer between Red and Ash. Both characters have a Pikachu and have different strengths and weaknesses based on their trainers. Having Red finally collide with Ash is something that players only dreamed of before Pokemon Masters EX. This crossover cements Red as an iconic figure in the Pokemon series by having him be the ultimate challenge for Ash.

Pokemon Masters EX has no shortage of fanservice and character building throughout the game. To have Red portrayed in such a way is only fitting for how much of a legacy he has left throughout the series. With each iteration of Red, something more is done to make him seem like the legend he is. In Pokemon Masters EX, having Red finally pair up with Pikachu and battle Ash only adds to his legacy and gives him his long-deserved respect.

Pokemon Masters EX is available now on Android and iOS devices.
