A coveted accomplishment that Pokemon fans strive for is obtaining a shiny version of their favorite capturable Pokemon. These are incredibly rare Pokemon variants that can be caught or found by players in the mainline games. Players of Pokemon Sword and Shield have various methods of increasing their chances of encountering a Shiny Pokemon such as obtaining the Shiny Charm item. This item dramatically increases the odds of getting the elusive Shinies, along with other methods like the "Masuda Method" when breeding Pokemon. One player of Pokemon Sword and Shield set out to reclaim a shiny Pokemon that they had once caught, but lost in a trade.

According to user UnovaKid24, they captured their first ever shiny mon in Pokemon White, but traded it away. The Pokemon they traded was a male Unfezant, the final evolved stage of Pidove, the "Tiny Pidgeon" Pokemon. In exchange, they received a Rapidash, a fire-type Pokemon that was also shiny and several levels higher than the Unfezant they were offering, much to the bafflement of the user. While they have come to regret the decision in recent years, they aimed to rectify the situation in Sword and Shield.

The user posted to the Pokemon Sword and Shield subreddit that their attempt to get the same shiny Pokemon had been met with success. Thanks to their dedication, the Shiny Pokemon was able to be hatched within 50 eggs. This is due to the odds of hatching Shinies in Sword and Shield being adjusted, with the chance of coming across this shiny within the estimated range.

UnovaKid24 was extremely happy to be reunited with the shiny Unfezant after a decade regret from trading their original. Fellow users of the subreddit congratulated the player on their accomplishment, some noting the same struggles they had when trying to hatch a specific shiny. Others reminisced about their first encounter with a shiny Pokemon, and how special that first shiny is to a player of the franchise.

The rarity of Shiny Pokemon and the act of catching them is no small feat. It takes such a long period of time for players to gather up the resources to either hunt or breed them a daunting task. For many Pokemon Sword and Shield players, the time dedicated to this task is part of the reward. For this player, it was a long time coming, and reuniting them with their first Shiny was a satisfying end.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
