When Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee were first announced for the Nintendo Switch, old-school fans of the series were delighted. Returning to the magical world of Kanto, the games feature the original 151 Pokemon as well as one or two special additions. Unlike the original games, however, there are still quite a few fierce battles to be fought even after the Indigo Plateau.

Much like many of the recent Pokemon gamesLet's Go Pikachu & Eevee have plenty of post-game content that should keep players busy long after they've become Pokemon Champion. Whether it be catching additional Pokemon or seeking out new and more challenging opponents, there are plenty of compelling reasons to stick around for a little while longer.

Updated April 14, 2021, by Thomas Bowen: Although it's starting to look like there might not be anymore DLC planned for Pokemon Sword & Shield, it's still an incredibly exciting time to be a Pokemon fan. As well as the imminent arrival of New Pokemon Snap!, there's also the small matter of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl to consider; not to mention the mysterious open world Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Until these new games arrive though, some fans may find themselves at a bit of a loss when it comes to passing the time. Thankfully, however, there's plenty of post-game content crammed into Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eeevee to keep players busy, making the games a great way to fill the void until newer titles are released.

10 Fly!

After becoming Pokemon Champion, players will be able to select a second Pokemon to travel alongside them and their starter Pokemon. Choosing Charizard — or any other large, Flying-type Pokemon — will enable them to soar above buildings and walls, which can make traversing the game's world considerably easier.

In addition to this, players will also be able to encounter other Flying-type Pokemon while they're up in the air. Many of these are fairly common Pokemon like Spearows and Pidgeys, although on rare occasions, Charizards and Dragonites can sometimes spawn in.

9 Finish Catching The Legendary Birds

The three Legendary Birds can technically be caught before heading to the Pokemon League — Articuno in the Seafoam Islands, Moltres on Victory Road, and Zapdos at the Power Plant. While the first two are en-route though, Zapdos is pretty out of the way, meaning that many players skip catching it the first time around.

For those who didn't find time to visit the Power Plant or, for whatever reason, didn't catch Articuno or Moltress, doing so after becoming Champion is an absolute must. Each requires players to solve a puzzle to get to them, although they're fairly easy to catch once they've been encountered since they cannot run away.

8 Catch Mewtwo

Unlike the locations of the Legendary Birds, the Cerulean Cave cannot be accessed until after players have emerged victorious at the Pokemon league. In the cave, dwelling deep within its depths, players will find the incredibly powerful Mewtwo.

This level 70 Pokemon is nowhere near as easy to catch as the Legendary Birds, so many players opt to save their Master Ball for this occasion. His immense power makes this a pretty tough battle, as too does the five minute timer. It's therefore a good idea to save beforehand, although thankfully, defeating the Elite Four again will cause him to respawn in the event that players run out of time or are defeated.

7 Challenge Green In Cerulean Cave

Battling Green in the Cerulean Cave in Pokemon Let's Go

After players have caught Mewtwo and emerged from the Cerulean Cave, Trace will appear and tell them to head back inside and look for a girl who was searching for them. Before doing so though, it's a very good idea to heal up any injured Pokemon.

Upon re-entering the cave, players will find Green waiting for them and she will challenge them to a battle. This is no ordinary trainer, however, with the sheer strength of her team meaning that she'll likely cause quite a few problems for unprepared players.

6 Challenge Blue At Viridian Gym

Once Green has been taken care of, the next post-game battle for players to seek out is Blue. He'll be waiting at the gym in Viridian City and, like Green, has access to some incredibly powerful Pokemon.

His team consists of Pokemon who are all level 66 or higher and even includes a level 68 Mega Charizard Y. This isn't the only gym that can be re-challenged either, although it is definitely the most difficult of the eight that are available.

5 Battle The Master Trainers

After defeating the Elite Four, players may start to notice that many of the game's trainers now have a Pokemon symbol floating above their heads. Placing that specific Pokemon at the front of their party will allow players to fight these trainers once more.

Although they are a little more difficult the second time around, the real challenge is finding them all. There are a lot of them scattered around Kanto — 153, to be exact — so those hoping to complete all of the extra content in the game can expect to devote quite a bit of time to tracking them all down.

4 Challenge Red At The Indigo League

Once players have defeated six of the master trainers, Red will finally appear outside of the Pokemon League. He's considerably more difficult than both Blue and Green combined due to him boasting a team of Pokemon that are all level 85.

Players should aim for a team that is at least level 75 before taking him on and stocking up on max revives, max potions and full restores is something of a must. Challenging though he may be, defeating Red is definitely possible and the sign of a true Pokemon Champion.

3 Complete The Pokédex

To get hold of a Diploma, players will need to complete their entire Pokedex. Although definitely a daunting task, it's at least a little easier than it was in previous games, as most Pokemon can now be captured in the wild. Of course, finding them all can still be a bit of a chore.

There are a handful of Pokemon that  are only available in one of the two versions of the game though, meaning that they'll either need to be traded or transferred in. Thankfully, however, this is now as simple as heading over to Fuschia City and importing them from Pokemon Go!

2 Shiny Hunt

If players take their Diploma to the incredibly meta "Game Freak Headquarters" in Celadon City, they'll be able to get their hands on a Shiny Charm. As the name might suggest, this valuable item increases the chances of running into a shiny Pokemon by a huge amount.

Shiny Pokemon, of course, aren't any more powerful than their regular counterparts, although many of them do look considerably cooler. There's also the matter of bragging rights as well, with some players taking great pride in their collection of shinies.

1 Battle & Trade Online

The online features of Pokemon Let's Go allow players too battle and trade with friends — or, if they're so inclined, random people. When battling, all Pokemon get set to level 50 to keep things fair, although it's still possible to use the Key Stone to help things along.

Given the amount of hard work that goes into catching all of the game's Legendary Pokemon and tracking down shiny gen 1 variants, the online areas of the games serve as a great place to show them all off. Of course, there are also plenty of challenging opponents there just waiting to be battled, making it a great training ground for those who've already defeated Red, Blue and Green.
