After calming the fifth frenzied Noble Pokemon, the Hisuian sky will turn red and Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will be tasked with getting their hands on the Red Chain. This legendary tool has the power to bind the world as well as certain Pokemon, but finding it isn't going to be easy. Together with either Adaman or Irida, they'll need to travel to the three great lakes and complete a special trial for each of the Lake Guardian trio.

First up is Mesprit's trial, which players will find inside the cave at the center of Lake Verity in the Obisidian Fieldlands area. To complete it, they'll first need to defeat a powerful Alpha Pokemon and then answer a series of questions for the Legendary being of emotion. This guide will explain how to approach the battle as well as which answers players should choose when faced with Mesprit's questions.

How to Counter Hisuian Goodra

Upon entering the cave, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will come face to face with a Level 58 Alpha Hisuian Goodra. Like other Alphas in the game, players can attempt to catch it if they'd like, but they'll need to bring along a strong Pokemon or two to withstand Goodra's attacks and deplete enough of its HP to prevent it from breaking free of their Poke Balls.

As a Dragon / Steel-type Pokemon, Hisuian Goodra is weak to both Fighting and Ground-type attacks. Its own attacking move set includes Hydro Pump, Iron Tail, and Dragon Pulse, however, so players should avoid bringing along a Pokemon that's weak to Water, Steel, or Dragon-type attacks. Due to Hisuian Goodra's 150 Special Defense stat, it's also a good idea to choose a physical attacker rather than a special one.

With all this in mind, players should bring along a pure Fighting-type Pokemon to counter Hisuian Goodra. There are a few viable options, but Machamp is arguably the pick of the bunch. Players can find one in the Arena's Approach area of the Alabaster Icelands, or evolve a Machoke using a Linking Cord. Alternatively, a bulky Normal-type can get the job done, with Snorlax being a solid pick.

How to Answer Mesprit's Questions

After catching or defeating Hisuian Goodra, Mesprit will show up and begin to telepathically communicate with the player. It will ask them a series of questions, which they'll need to answer in order to earn the Pokemon's trust and get it to hand over the item that they need. Luckily, it doesn't matter which options players choose when answering Mesprit's questions, so they're free to answer them honestly or just spam the A button to speed things up a little.

After answering the final question, Mesprit will hand over a special item called Mesprit's Plume, which will be needed to craft the Red Chain a little later on. With the plume in hand, players will now be able to leave the cave and should make their way over to the Alabaster Icelands to meet Uxie and take on the Trial of Lake Acuity.
