The next big Pokemon title currently lined up is Pokemon Legends: Arceus, a title that promises to take the Pokemon franchise in a brand new direction. Over the years, the franchise has tried out a wide variety of genres and gameplay mechanics ranging from a digital adaptation of the trading card game to a MOBA, but Pokemon Legends: Arceus may be ready to bring survival gameplay into the mix. A popular leaker not only suggests that the game will feature hardcore resource management, but it will also reportedly be the longest Pokemon game ever.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus isn't quite a truly open-world game, but it seems to take place in a segmented game world so large that many mistook it for an open-world title. With so many locations to explore and new Pokemon variants to discover, it may be easy to see how this could be the longest Pokemon game yet.

Leaker Riddler Khu stated in a recent tweet that Pokemon Legends: Arceus will give players a hardcore gameplay experience with elements taken from survival games. They told fans that keeping track of resource drops and being efficient with Poke Balls will be important skills to master. Reportedly, the final task of the game is to capture Arceus, but they also confirmed that Pokemon Legends: Arceus would have the longest gameplay time in a mainline Pokemon game. This led them to wonder how many players would actually make it all the way to end and capture the Alpha Pokemon.

Riddler Khu went on to say that players should pay close attention to berries, ores, and other resource drops while exploring the Hisui region. Pokemon Legends: Arceus appears to be highlighting some of the darker elements of the Pokemon world, including the fact that Pokemon can die, so the addition of survival gameplay elements may be fitting. While it's unclear if Pokemon will die in the main game, it's already confirmed that the Hisui variants of Zorua and Zoroark arose from the vengeful ghosts of deceased Pokemon.

The leaker also confirmed that shiny Pokemon will be visible on the overmap, just like they were in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. This is a feature that was missing from the recent releases of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As gathering shiny Pokemon is predicted to be an optional completionist task in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, gamers may be pleased to hear this.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will release for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
