Pokemon Legends: Arceus shook up the standard formula for a Pokemon game, and it appears that many fans appreciate its fresh take on the Sinnoh region. By taking gamers several hundred years into the past, this title allowed fans to watch history being made and encounter ancient varieties of Pokemon that seem to have been lost over the centuries. Now, one group of Pokemon Legends: Arceus players are sharing their desire for a follow-up game that goes to the past of the Johto region.
Johto is the location of the Gen 2 Pokemon games and is still considered one of the most breathtaking and popular regions in the world of Pokemon. It introduced Dark-type Pokemon and is visually modeled after the Kansai region in Japan, which may explain its mix of charming small towns and sprawling megacities.
Redditor oohmarquii kicked off the discussion by sharing a fan-made graphic reading "Pokemon Legends: Celebi" and focused on a picture of the Mythical Pokemon Celebi soaring over an aerial view of Johto. Like Arceus, Celebi is a Mythical Pokemon that has previously been distributed as part of special events. Celebi is a very popular and cute Pokemon that has been added to other spin-off Pokemon titles. It's also a creature with strong associations to time--specifically, time-travel--which would make it a strong choice to build a game about time-travel around.
Several other users replied to the initial post noting the many elements of the Johto region that would make it a good choice for a journey to the past. This includes the presence of the Ruins of Alph and the hidden Sinjoh Ruins north of Johto. Ruins are a staple of many Pokemon games, but these ruined locations are specifically connected to powerful Legendaries. Another user noted that a Pokemon Legends game set in Johto could allow players to watch and even participate in the origin story of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.
A number of users expressed an interest in having the beta versions of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune implemented as the original forms of these Pokemon. According to Johto legend, the three Legendary Beasts perished in a fire that took place 150 years before the events of the Gen 2 games. That fire that killed them also turned the Brass Tower into the Burned Tower and reportedly drove Lugia away. However, Ho-Oh briefly returned to the location of the fire and revived the three Pokemon in their present shape. That set-up certainly sounds like a good story, especially following up on Pokemon Legends: Arceus' story of trust and zealotry.
