Before Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Togepi was a Normal-type Pokemon who had one evolution: Togetic. Unlike most Pokemon, Togepi evolves by having a strong bond with its trainer. With Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Togepi could evolve even further into Togekiss. By Pokemon X/Y, the Togepi-line's Normal-typing was dropped for the Fairy-typing instead. This eliminated their weakness to Fighting-type Pokemon and made them super effective against Dragon-type while being weak to Poison and Steel-type moves. Togepi and its evolutions make a return in Pokemon Legends: Arceus with the same evolution methods they've had since the fourth generation.

Evolving Togepi in Pokemon Legends: Arceus can be time-consuming, but it's not too difficult. Togepi won't be readily available at the start of the game, and trainers will battle Volo's own Togepi before they can catch their own. Once they've made some progress in Pokemon Legends: Arceus' story, they can catch and evolve as many Togepi as they want.

Updated May 26, 2022 by Renri Seong: Togepi is one of the rarer spawns in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and catching it is required to complete the Pokedex. This marks one of the few times when Togepi does not hatch from an Egg given to the player character by an NPC. Instead, there are several locations to search for the Spike Ball Pokemon. Like most Baby Pokemon, Togepi evolves by raising its Friendship, and can evolve even further as Togetic into Togekiss. The following guide has been updated to include another place to catch Togepi and its evolutions as well as more information on its evolution method.

Where to Find Togepi

pokemon legends arceus crimson mirelands map

After players have calmed the Noble Kleavor, they'll receive a Mission to go to the Crimson Mirelands. Near the Bogbound Camp is a section called Ursa's Ring. On the other side of the river next to Ursa's Ring is the Droning Meadow. To the north of Droning Meadow is Cottonsedge Prairie, where Togepi can occasionally be found. As a rare spawn, it has a lower chance of appearing than the more common Pachirisu and Petilil.

It's impossible to cross the river without Basculegion, but some players have been able to cross the river by doing a running leap with Wyrdeer. If players don't want to waste their time trying to jump across, they can go north from Bogbound Camp and around Lake Valor to reach Cottonsedge Prairie. It's a long walk, but it's the only way to get to Cottonsedge Prairie without surfing on Basculegion or leaping with Wyrdeer.

Once players have Basculegion, they can find a Togepi on one of the islands around Tranquility Cove in the Cobalt Coastlands. There's a chance Togepi will also appear at the Bathers' Lagoon, which is to the far left of the Coastlands Camp and Deadwood Haunt.

Togepi is likely to flee if it notices the player, so sneak up on it and catch it. Trainers should try and complete some of Togepi's research tasks for the Pokedex as they grow its friendship.

Raising Togepi's Friendship

Trainers can check their Friendship with Togepi by speaking to Belamy in Jubilife Village. However, they'll need to complete Request 28: Measuring Your Compatibility first. Simply speak to Belamy near the Pastures after completing Mission 7: The Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods.

Friendship can be increased or decreased depending on how the Pokemon performs in battle or by feeding it certain medicine. If players aren't careful, they can quickly drop the Friendship between them and their Pokemon, thus delaying evolution. Togepi's Friendship needs to be around 225.

Trainers should remember the following when raising Togepi's Friendship:

  1. Keep Togepi in the Party.
  2. Have Togepi gather Apricorns, Berries, or Minerals/Rocks.
  3. Keep Togepi from fainting in battle.
  4. Do NOT feed it Remedies. Remedies are Pokemon Legends: Arceus' version of medicinal herbs and they will lower Friendship. If Togepi's health needs restoring in battle, use a Potion instead.
  5. Don't have Togepi battle Pokemon that are 30 levels higher. Losing to a Pokemon that's 30 levels higher or lower will decrease friendship significantly. A Pokemon with 200+ Friendship will lose 10 Friendship points if it faints in battle against a Pokemon that's 30 levels higher than its own.

What Level Does Togepi Evolve?

pokemon egg togepi feature

Fortunately, Togepi does not have a set level at which it evolves. As long as its friendship is high, the Evolve option will start glowing on the Party screen. If players aren't using Togepi to shake Berry Trees or gather crafting ingredients, then Togepi's Friendship will grow slower. Preventing it from battling will also stunt its Friendship growth.

Unlike previous games such as Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Togepi does not need to level up an additional level once its Friendship is at 225. In the case players just want to feed it Exp. Candies instead of having it in the party, raising its level by 15-20 should be enough to get it to the Friendship Level Togepi needs to be in order to evolve. Keep an eye on the Poke Ball icon next to Togepi's name. If it's glowing, then that means it can evolve by hovering over Togepi's status, and tapping the X-button.

Evolving Togetic into Togekiss

After getting Togetic, the next step is evolving it into Togekiss. Additionally, trainers should also consider completing some of Togetic's research tasks to get Togetic's Pokedex entry.

Togetic will evolve into Togekiss if it's exposed to a Shiny Stone. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, evolutionary stones can be hard to come by. They can't be purchased at Jubilife Village's local store, but they can be bought with Merit Points or found in the rocks/crystals around Hisui.

A Shiny Stone costs 1200 Merit Points (MP). Players can get Merit Points by finding satchels and returning them to their owners. Satchels can be returned by going into Lost and Found in the Communications menu.

The Merit Points given upon returning a Satchel is determined by what was inside. For example: an Exp. Candies XL may give 97 MP while an Exp. Candies M will give 52 MP.

Once trainers have 1200 Merit Points, they can buy the Shiny Stone from the Merit Shop right next to Galaxy Hall.

Another way to get the Shiny Stone is by having their Pokemon break shaking and shining crystals in the wild. Sometimes breaking these crystals will give an evolutionary stone. Unfortunately, the evolutionary stones are random, making this a not-so-surefire way of obtaining Shiny Stones.

After getting the Shiny Stone, go into the Satchel and use the Shiny Stone on Togetic to complete its evolution and get Togekiss.

Where to Find Togetic and Togekiss in the Wild

Those that want to bypass this process can get Togepi's evolutions, Togetic and Togekiss, in the wild. Unlike Togepi, they can only be caught using Feather/Wing/Jet Balls.

  • In Crimson Mirelands, there are two locations where Togetic can be seen flying around. Go to the right of Cottonsedge Prairie and look up. There will be a Togetic flying in circles, so get as close to it as possible from the ground. Players will need to time their throw if they want to catch it. There's another Togetic near the river by Bolderoll Slope.
  • All the way back in the Obsidian Fieldlands, there's a mountain (that players can climb with Sneasler) to the north of Sandgem Flats and directly outside of Lake Verity. Go to the star on the left image and stand where the red arrow is to have a chance at catching Togekiss.
