Game Freak's latest title in the massive popular franchise, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, has gotten off to a hot start with fans. Part of the reason why Pokemon Legends: Arceus has been breaking sales records is likely due to the fact that it manages to change the traditional formula that the series has been known for. While catching Pokemon is still a core element, players are now researchers who are tasked with discovering and learning about these pocket monsters.

Featuring a more open world to explore, players will be taking on Monster Hunter-style missions in an effort to learn more about the Pokemon around Jubilife Village. Players will be able to capture them without needing to battle first, and there are even new dangerous types called Frenzied Noble Pokemon like the previously shown off Kleavor which can actively harm the player and knocking them out.

In addition to these new features and mechanics, Pokemon Legends: Arceus also introduces new creatures into the series both through Hisuian Pokemon forms as well as new evolution paths for some existing ones. One such Pokemon is Basculin, which can now evolve into Basculegion. Here's what players need to know regarding the evolutionary process.

Where to Find Basculin

Originally introduced in the fifth generation of Pokemon games, the piranha looking Basculin has never been able to evolve. Thankfully, that has changed inside of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, as Basculin becomes the imposing Basculegion, a Pokemon that will allow players to ride it across water.

While players are gifted a Basculegion through progressing the story, it won't be available for battling. So players will first need to find a Basculin in the wild and evolve it the traditional way in order to have a combat ready Pokemon. Thankfully, this creature can be found swimming in the waters of Cobalt Coastlands, Coronet Highlands, and Alabaster Icelands. However, unlike more traditional Pokemon evolutions which require players reach a certain friendship or level, players will need to work a little bit.

How to Evolve Basculegion

Once a Basculin has been found, players will want to add it to their party because the only way to evolve it is through combat. In order to evolve Hisuian Basculin into Basculegion, it will need to take 300 recoil damage through battling. The catch here is that the damage only counts if Basculin doesn't faint. Once 300 has been hit, the option to evolve it will be available from the party menu.

The Big Fish Pokemon known as Basculegion comes with the unique Water/Ghost typing and according to the PokeDex, it is quite powerful. According to the game, Basculegion uses the souls of its comrades who failed in their journey to swim upstream, gaining power and preventing it from tiring. According to the game, there's no other species in Hisui's rivers that is an equal to Basculegion and once it is enraged, it will attack relentlessly until the enemy is defeated.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
