No other game quite lives up to its franchise's catchphrase, "gotta catch 'em all," like Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Pokemon encourages players to get out there and catch all the powerful and mythical creatures that roam the land, seas, and skies, but not many of the games require players to actually catch 'em all in order to progress the story and unlock certain areas of the map.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus changed up the formula set by the main series games, requiring players to truly catch all the creatures roaming around the region of Hisui. This measure is required in order to unlock new areas in Hisui, and especially so in completing the ever-important Pokedex.

10 Abra

Lovingly regarded as the "teleporting menace", Abra is infamously hard to catch in nearly every game it's featured in. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Abra will teleport away from the area if it notices the player sneaking up. If it spots the player, it'll teleport away entirely—giving the player only one chance to catch Abra if they spot it out in the wild.

Once the player unlocks the far-flying Jet & Wing Balls, Abra becomes less of a tedious task to catch. But for players who want a strong psychic-type early on in the game, buckle up and strap in for a true challenge of stealth.

9 Togepi

A fan favorite due to its charming appearance in the anime, Togepi is more than a little difficult to catch. While it spawns in a few locations, very timid and will run away from players who try to battle or catch it.

Togepi isn't a common encounter either, leaving players exiting and entering the same area over and over again if they manage to scare off all the Togepi that had been spawned. Much like its high-flying evolutions, Togetic and Togekiss, Togepi makes it no walk in the park to catch this beloved baby Pokemon.

8 Shieldon & Cranidos

Shieldon and Cranidos, although they once used to exclusively come from fossils, now only appear in Space-Time Distortions. The two can only be found within Space-Time Distortions that form in the Coronet Highlands.

What makes them so difficult to find is the fact that there are two rare spawns for Space-Time Distortions in the Cornet Highlands. Because of this, players may find either Shieldon or Cranidos over, and over again. While it's frustrating, especially with having to wait until the appearance of a Space-Time Distortion, with decent luck players, can hunt down and catch both of these Gen IV Fossil Pokemon.

7 Cherrim

Similar to the honey tree mechanic that was used in Generation IV, Cherrim can only be found in shaking berry trees. Aggravatingly similar to the honey tree mechanic, the shaking berry trees in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are completely left up to RNG. Players can't do anything to make trees shake more, and they can't control what will pop out.

Up until recently, there was a bug that made Cherrim impossible to catch once it turned into its Sunshine Forme. Although this bug has since been patched, Cherrim is still a pain for players to hunt down and catch due to its reliance on luck to appear.

6 Giratina

Giratina isn't difficult to catch because of its spawn rate, but rather because of the hoops players have to jump through in order to be qualified to catch it. Giratina is, without a doubt, the most hard-to-catch member of the creation trio.

After beating the main story, players must then capture six legendary Pokemon: Azelf, Mesprit, Uxie, Heatran, Cresselia, and Regigigas. The final requirement to catch Giratina will be finding all nineteen of the elemental plates scattered across Hisui. Only after those three steps have been completed will players be able to go to the top of Mt. Coronet and battle Giratina.

5 Arceus

Similar to Giratina, catching Arceus is difficult because of the lengths players have to go to in order to catch it. As was stated at the beginning of the game, the player's task is to discover and catch all the Pokemon in Hisui. That tedious task is the only thing separating players from the glory of finally getting to catch and own the Poke-God Arceus.

Players must have captured Giratina and all remaining Pokemon in the Pokedex. This excludes Manaphy, Phione, Shaymin, and Darkrai due to their difficulty to obtain and the requirement of their appearance on owning other games such as Pokemon Sword & Shield and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. The player doesn't have to complete each entry, but they have to at least catch one of each Pokemon in the Pokedex in order to catch Arceus.

4 Enamorus

Regardless of how players feel about Enamorus' questionable design, it doesn't make it any less brutal to catch. In order to even discover Enamorus; Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus must have been captured by the player. Those three are difficult in their own respect to hunt down and capture, as each of them fights back against the player and only appears in certain areas during certain weather conditions.

When players finally get to fight Enamorus, they'll find it has another trick up its sleeve. It'll dizzyingly invert the player's controls, making it even more difficult to whittle down its health and dodge attacks.

3 Ursaluna

Using certain rare items to fully evolve their beloved creatures isn't something that fans aren't used to. However, it certainly became more frustrating with the inclusion of the Peat Block to evolve Ursarang into Ursaluna. Peat Blocks can only be found in the Crimson Mirelands while riding on top of Ursaluna.

Item spawns for Ursaluna to dig up are few and far between as it is, making the tedious task of searching day and night on the back of the relatively slow-walking Ursaluna for this item time-consuming and frustrating. Players will be waiting on being able to obtain their own Ursaluna for a long time if they can't muster up the luck to quickly find a Peat Block.

2 Spiritomb

Similar to the task of finding all the Korok Seeds scattered throughout The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has players searching across the map for 107 wisps in order to catch Spiritomb. Compared to the 900 Korok Seeds in Breath Of The Wild, finding a measly 107 wisps shouldn't be the grueling task that it is.

However, without a guide, finding all the wisps scattered and hidden across the map is a tall task. Making matters worse, finding all the wisps are required as Spiritomb is one of the Pokemon needed to complete the Pokedex.

1 Manaphy & Phione

Without looking this one up on the internet or having an incredibly in-depth, encyclopedic knowledge of Pokemon, it's basically impossible to find Manaphy and Phione. Cited from a random book found in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Manaphy and Phione can be found through having an Overqwil, Mantyke, and Buizel in the player's party and swimming through the gate near Seabreak Hollow.

Players must swim through the dual-horn-shaped gate with those three Pokemon in their party in the evening, or else Manaphy and Phione won't appear in Seaside Hollow. If this task sounds way too specific to have been figured out without help, don't worry—you're not alone.
