Character customization has been a part of the mainline Pokemon games since the sixth generation. This included buying different clothing and even changing hairstyle and color. Pokemon Sun/Moon took customization further by adding colored contact lenses. Despite taking place in ancient Sinnoh, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has no shortage of clothing for players to buy for their characters.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Hisui region takes inspiration from Ezo, known today as Hokkaido. As such, the store in-game won't have the more modern apparel that appeared in other mainline Pokemon games. Most clothing will automatically unlock as players make their way through Legends: Arceus' main story. However, most of the Pokemon-themed Kimono Sets are rewards for Anthe's optional Requests or by completing Pokedex entries.

The Fancy Kimono and Fancy Bottoms have a color palette based on a particular Pokemon, such as Cherrim or Honchkrow. These are not the same as the Pokemon Kimono and Pokemon Bottoms. The Pokemon Kimono and Bottoms are based on Pokemon Types like Fairy-type or Grass-type.

Fancy Kimonos cost 3200 while Fancy Bottoms cost 2800. While players will be able to get most of the sets in-game, some can only be obtained as Mystery Gifts.

Some Fancy Kimono sets cannot be obtained in the story of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Unfortunately, some are pre-order exclusive, while others require having saved data of specific Pokemon titles on the Switch. Tips for Unlocking Fancy Kimono Sets

Because most of the Fancy Kimono and Bottoms are locked behind Pokedex entries, it's much easier to just catch the Pokemon and have it in the Party to complete some of its Research Tasks.

Legendary Pokemon like Giratina are locked in the postgame or part of a series of Request-lines. Since there are only one of each Legendary in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the only way to reach Research Level 10 is by using them in battle. Speak to Zisu at the Training Grounds to "master" one of their moves needed for a Research Task. Some tasks include seeing the Pokemon use a Strong/Agile-style move a certain amount of times, so it's best to master the required moves.

As for the Hisui starter Pokemon, these can be obtained after the main story. Speak to Professor Laventon, and he will give the other two starters for free. If players want to catch more of the starters for Research Task purposes, they'll need to find them in Space-time distortions.

Since the Rowlet/Cyndaquil/Oshawott Fancy Kimono sets unlock after obtaining them, it's unnecessary to complete the Pokedex Entry. For completionist purposes, it is recommended to get the Research Level to 10 before evolving them because they're extremely rare Pokemon.

Non-legendaries, such as the starters' final evolutions, can max out their Research Level by using them in battle. Alternatively, players can wait for Space-time distortions and try and catch their previous-evolved forms and evolve them.

However, it's easier to just evolve the ones Laventon gives away and keep them in the party. The same applies for Pokemon like Spiritomb and Cherrim, the latter who players may recognize as being a key Pokemon to a frustrating Request.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
