Pokemon Legends: Arceus is the next big Nintendo Switch exclusive game, and the wait for it is nearly over. The Pokemon Legends: Arceus release date is merely a couple of weeks away at this point, and it's looking to provide a much different kind of experience for franchise fans. Nintendo has now released a new gameplay overview trailer for Pokemon Legends: Arceus that shows off the game and explains exactly what players will be doing in the Hisui region.

This new Pokemon Legends: Arceus trailer shows off the Hisui region, hyping it as a world with "sprawling landscapes" filled with different kinds of Pokemon. It's worth noting that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is not a true open world game (it's more in line with something like Monster Hunter), but even so it's blowing the door wide open when it comes to exploration in a main series Pokemon game, and that's on full display in the latest Arceus trailer.

The new Pokemon Legends: Arceus trailer highlights some of the new Pokemon that players will be able to encounter in the Hisui region, like the new Stantler evolved form Wyrdeer. It also shows how these Pokemon will attempt to attack the player character at points and how the Pokemon battles work in real-time versus the turn-based combat from past Pokemon games.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will find players at odds with some of the Pokemon they encounter in the Hisui region, eventually catching them and working together like as seen in the other Pokemon games. Players will be able to use the Pokemon on their team to collect crafting materials from the game world, with the example shown in the trailer being Snorlax stomping on the ground to knock fruit loose from a tree.

The trailer also gives players another look at Kleavor, a new evolved form for Scyther being introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Kleavor is one of the Noble Pokemon that players will have to fight in the game, essentially serving as one of Pokemon Legends: Arceus' boss fights.

This latest overview trailer clues fans in on the main gameplay features that they can expect when the Pokemon Legends: Arceus release date rolls around later this month. The game is taking the Pokemon franchise into some bold and risky new directions, and fans will find out soon enough if Game Freak's ambitious gamble pays off or if it would have been better to stick with the tried-and-true formula.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus launches January 28, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
