While exploring the Obsidian Fieldlands in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players may spot a Gyarados flying in a circle above them. This is a powerful Pokemon that fans can add to their teams fairly early in the game, though catching it can prove to be somewhat difficult. For those fans that are struggling to capture the flying Gyarados in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, this guide will offer recommendations on how to approach this task.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - How to Catch Flying Gyarados

The first step toward catching the flying Gyarados in the Obsidian Fieldlands is to obtain Star Rank 2. For the uninitiated, players can increase their Star Rank by completing Pokedex entries and earning Research Points in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and it should not take very long to reach the second rank. Upon reaching that rank, fans will gain the ability to craft Feather Balls, and they will make capturing the Flying Gyarados much easier.

To craft Feather Balls in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players must combine Apricorns and Sky Tumblestones at a workbench. Fans can farm the Apricorns that they need by shaking the trees that are found across the Hisui region, and Sky Tumblestones come from the blue ore nodes in the Crimson Mirelands and beyond. While the number of Feather Balls that need to be crafted from these materials will vary from player to player, it is recommended that fans have at least 20 on hand before going after the flying Gyarados.

With some Feather Balls crafted, fans should make their way to the Heights Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands and head to the east. Pokemon Legends: Arceus players that travel in this direction should eventually arrive at the edge of a cliff that overlooks the Obsidian Falls, and the Gyarados's flight path passes directly by it. For full clarity, the precise position of this cliff has been marked on the map that is below, and fans should scale the small hill that is just to the south to get some additional height.

Players should now wait for the Gyarados to fly past their position on the hill, pre-aiming their Feather Balls so that they be launched as soon as the Pokemon is in range. Notably, fans should aim slightly above the Gyarados, as the Feather Balls will simply bounce off of the Pokemon if they hit it on its underside. Simply hitting the Gyarados once may not be enough, though, and players should expect to launch numerous Feather Balls before they have finally captured the Pokemon.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
