With Pokemon Legends: Arceus being an open-world game, the return of crafting mechanics probably won't come as too much of a surprise for most players. Though they'll still be able to find and buy items just as they could in previous Pokemon games, there's now a heavy emphasis placed on crafting, both when it comes to Poke Balls and healing items.

Thankfully, crafting in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is relatively straightforward, although players will need to progress through the first part of the story before they can unlock it. They'll also need to get their hands on the appropriate crafting recipes, as well as all of the materials required. Players will learn how to craft as part of the Basics of Crafting mission, which they'll unlock immediately after finishing The Galaxy Team's Entry Trial. Cyllene will also give them the Poke Ball recipe at this time: the first of many crafting recipes that are unlocked as part of the game's main story. After speaking with Akari/Rei, players will then need to head outside and follow the marker to the nearby craftworks area to get started.

Like most of the series' mechanics, crafting in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is relatively straightforward. To get started, players will simply need to interact with any workbench, which can be found either at the craftworks in Jubilife Village or at any one of the Galaxy Team base camps. Upon doing so, they'll see all of their available recipes on the left-hand side of the screen and the necessary materials for each one on the right. Later on, players will also be given a portable workbench, though, unlike a regular one, this will only work with items that are in their satchel.

Providing they have the required materials, players can press the A button here and then choose how many of the item they'd like to craft. Initially, they'll only be able to craft standard Poke Balls, but will soon acquire new recipes for other types of Poke Balls as well as healing items like Potions and Revives. This can be a great way to save money, as most of the ingredients needed are pretty easy to come by.

Some crafting components can be bought, but most will need to be found while out in the field. Certain items, like Medicinal Leeks, can be picked up by pressing the A button while standing near them, but collecting most crafting materials will require a helping hand from the player's partner Pokemon. Pokemon will also gain experience for helping out, making this a great way to level Pokemon up during the early stages of the game.

If players see colored rocks/minerals or trees with berries growing in them while they explore, they'll be able to have their Pokemon harvest the resources inside by throwing their Poke Ball at them using the ZR button (players may need to press X first to switch from empty Poke Balls to their active team). It's also worth noting that Pokemon can be used to pick things up from the ground using this method, allowing players to gather resources without having to stop or alter their course.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
