Those looking to build a balanced team in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are going to want to get their hands on a strong Ground-type Pokemon of some sort. Ever since the days of Pokemon Red & Blue, these bulky beasts have been the preferred method for dealing with pesky Electric and Fire-types, and, in the years that have followed, they've become the ideal counter for powerful Steel-type Pokemon as well.

These days, however, many players prefer Pokemon that can fill multiple roles on their team, which has made Pokemon with secondary typings a lot more desirable than they once were. As a result, the best Ground-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus tend to offer the best of multiple worlds rather than being strictly mono-type Pokemon.

Mamoswine is nowhere near as bulky as its size might otherwise suggest, but can still pack quite a punch thanks to its 130 Attack stat. It's also relatively fast for its size, and, being an Ice / Ground-type, is a little more versatile than the likes of Hippowdon. Granted, it does have a few more weaknesses than a pure Ground-type, but can serve as a solid counter to Dragon-types due to it having access to moves like Icicle Crash. Those hoping to min-max should try and find a Mamoswine with a Naughty nature, though Adamant is also a solid pick.

How to Get Mamoswine in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch an Alpha Mamoswine in the Avalugg's Legacy area of the Alabaster Icelands. Alternatively, they can find its unevolved forms Swinub and Piloswine, both of which are native to the same area, as well as in the Bonechill Wastes and Avalanche Slope sections of the icelands. Swinub evolves into Piloswine at Level 33 and Piloswine evolves into Mamoswine after learning Ancient Power at Level 34.

Ursaluna is one of several new evolutions introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and is arguably one of the very best. The Normal / Ground-type boasts an incredibly impressive 140 Attack stat and is fairly well equipped in the defensive departments as well. Ursaluna is also completely immune to Ghost-type attacks, making it a solid option for the battle with Giratina and Volo. To get the best out of their Ursaluna though, players will need to look for one with an Adamant nature.

How to Get Ursaluna in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can evolve Ursaring into Ursaluna by exposing it to a Peat Block, but only during a full moon. They may therefore need to repeatedly rest until nighttime until the option to actually use the Peat Block on Ursaring becomes available. They'll be able to find the rare evolution item in the Crimson Mirelands by using the mountable Ursaluna to dig for treasure. Players can catch Ursaring in the Ursa's Ring area of the Crimson Mirelands as well as in the Sonorous Path region of the Coronet Highlands.

Rhyperior may be a little slow, but the Ground / Rock-type is one of the bulkiest Pokemon in the Hisui region. Few Pokemon can match its 130 Defense stat, nor are there many with a higher Attack (Legendary or otherwise). It does come a little unstuck against Special attackers, but, when faced with Pokemon who specialize in Physical attacks, only those hitting its weakness will be able to topple Rhyperior. With a Brave nature, the Pokemon becomes even more unstoppable in these situations.

How to Get Rhyperior in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find and catch an Alpha Rhyperior in the Sacred Plaza area of the Coronet Highlands. Alternatively, they can evolve Rhydon by using the Protector; a special item that can be found in space-time distortions or traded for Merit Points at the item exchange counter in Jubilife Village. Players can find Rhydon and its unevolved form Rhyhorn in the Celestica Trail and Sacred Plaza areas of the Coronet Highlands, with the latter also showing up in the Bolderoll Slope, Diamond Heath, and Shrouded Ruins areas of the Crimson Mirelands. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon at Level 42.

Its crippling weakness to Ice-type attacks aside, Landorus is an incredibly impressive Pokemon. The Ground / Flying-type Legendary has the beating of just about every other Ground-type in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and offers a surprising amount of versatility thanks to it having multiple forms. Its Therian Forme is arguably the more deadly of the two, though its Incarnate Forme definitely has its uses as well. Whichever players are using, they'll want a Landorus with a Naughty nature, which increases its Attack stat at the expense of its Special Defense.

How to Get Landorus in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

To find Landorus, players will need to catch Giratina at the Turnback Cave and then start request #94 by speaking with Cogita. After accepting the request, players should make their way to Ramanos Island in the Obsidian Fieldlands area, where they'll find Landorus flying around. They'll need to hit it with a Poke Ball to lower its shield and then quickly throw a Pokemon at it to initiate a battle before it can recover. To switch between Tornadus' Incarnate and Therian forms, players will need the Reveal Glass, which is obtained by returning to Cogita after catching Enamorus and completing its Pokedex entry.

Not only is Garchomp one of the best Dragon-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but it's also the best Ground-type too. The Dragon / Ground-type Pseudo-Legendary can hit incredibly hard and is no slouch in the Speed department either. Its secondary typing takes away its weaknesses to Water and Grass-type attacks (albeit at the expense of a few new ones), while also granting resistance to Fire-type moves. Due to its high Attack stat, Garchomp is best with an Adamant nature.

How to Get Garchomp in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find an Alpha Garchomp in the Avalanche Slopes area of the Alabaster Icelands. Alternatively, they can evolve Gible or Gabite, both of which can be found in the same area, as well as in the Clamberclaw Cliffs region of the Coronet Highlands. Gible evolves into Gabite at Level 24 and Gabite evolves into Garchomp at Level 48.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
