Pokemon Journeys, the latest season of the long-running anime adaptation for Game Freak's popular series, has succeeded in shaking up its formula by having Ash Ketchum and his newest companion Goh travel all around the world. The show's latest opening sequence celebrates this by having the trainers examine Legendary Pokemon from every Generation of games, paying special attention to Sword and Shield's box art duo Zacian and Zamazenta.

Though this run of the anime has a worldly scale, a good amount of attention is paid to the Galar Region given it is the most recent. Goh caught Sobble in a recent Pokemon Journeys episode, who appears in the new opening alongside his first partner Raboot. At the end, fans see the Slumbering Weald altar where Galar's Legendary Pokemon sleep before getting called to save the world in Sword and Shield.

The opening sequence is full of fan service, from teasing the possibility of Ash or Goh catching an Aerodactyl to highlighting the Alolan Trial Captains gathering together, so a reference to the Slumbering Weald fits right in. However, the inclusion of Ash and Goh taking on Eternatus similar to the Nintendo Switch games suggests Zacian and Zamazenta may play a big role in the series sooner rather than later.

Other future episodes are teased by this intro, such as Ash battling Gym Leader Bea or Champion Leon taking on Gym Leader Raihan. Interested fans will just have to keep watching to find out when all of these ideas come about.

Pokemon Journeys is available now on Netflix.
