A big selling point for the Pokemon Journeys anime is that Ash Ketchum and his new companion Goh are traveling across the world in each episode — with future synopses suggesting they will soon head to the Johto Region for a Celebi-focused plot. That structure has not left as much time to explore the Galar Region as thoroughly as previous seasons, which is what makes it so exciting for the Generation 8 starter Sobble to finally play a major role.

In Pokemon Journeys episode 28, which just released in Japan, the duo come across a Sobble, and after some shenanigans it winds up being caught by Goh. Some fans were concerned that Goh would catch Sobble rather than Ash when the original synopsis was released, as the character already started his journey with a Scorbunny, but luckily the episode handles this new capture in a unique way.

Towards the end of the episode, Goh is frustrated at not being able to catch the Sobble in question. He throws a Pokeball in anger and winds up accidentally hitting the camouflaging, invisible lizard Pokemon, much to everyone's surprise. It's a cute moment that calls upon the monster's in-game lore and mechanics in a fun way.

With only Grookey left out of the trio of Galar starters, fans will be left to speculate whether Goh catches all three or lets Ash take the Grass-type, similar to his use of Treecko in Hoenn and Rowlet in Alola. It will also be interesting to see whether the new season makes use of the Galar starter Gigantamax forms introduced in Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor DLC.

Pokemon Journeys is available now on Netflix.
