In the world of Pokemon, a trainer starts their journey at the ripe age of 10 years old, taking ownership of a small creature encapsulated in a ball and venturing out into a vast world full of adventures and challenges. Along the way, they earn gym badges, take down organized crime lords, and attempt to complete their Pokedex at the same time.

While the endless possibilities may come off as overwhelming to most 10-year-old children and 11-year-olds kids in the Alolan region, the heroes of the world created by Game Freak are a breed of superheroes ready for anything that comes their way. The Pokemon universe is unique in the sense of the impossible becoming the norm.

One member of the Pokemon Reddit community took on the task of pointing out the differences between the prepubescent adventurers, specifically the height of each trainer from every generation. Starting with Red, the silent hero of the first generation, all the way up to the newest-announced Pokemon series set to release later in 2022, user somerandom_melon created a chart that gives fans a glimpse into how players have grown over the years. The chart covers the male protagonists only, so trainers like Kris, Lyra, May, Dawn, Hilda, Rosa, Serena, Selene, Elaine, Gloria, May, and Rei are all excluded from the list.

Of the trainers included in the chart, Calem has a clear height advantage over everyone else involved. As user Stxrm12_ comically points out, he appears to have a two-foot height advantage over Red, but others were quick to note that Calem is much older than most other protagonists. While trainers like Red, Blue, Ethan, and Silver are among the youngest protagonists in video game history, the later generations feature main characters of around 14-16, with some even reaching the age of adulthood at 18. The list of characters may be skewed, as user BluLaguna points out that several of the protagonists' designs were submitted by different artists, thus explaining some discrepancies.

After Calem and his towering presence, the last three generations appear to return to the shorter-sized protagonist. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet set for release later this year, the ninth-generation main character appears to be taller than the first four generations, as well as the last two but pales in comparison to the likes of Calem and Hilbert. His height may be a little off, however, considering the helmet-like hat he's wearing appears to make him look taller. It's also worth noting that all the side games, such as Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness and Pokemon Masters EX, are not represented in the chart.
