Update: Pokemon Home's Scarlet and Violet update is no longer launching on May 24.

Original story follows.

Pokemon Home functionality is finally coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet beginning May 24, and it will give players the chance to get special versions of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Pokemon Home is a helpful tool for fans of the Pokemon franchise, as it allows them to transfer their captured Pokemon to cloud storage for safekeeping or to eventually bring them to other games in the series.

Pokemon Home functionality has been a bit slow coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which has frustrated some fans of the franchise. After multiple leaks about the possible Pokemon Home release date, though, Pokemon enthusiasts finally know when the update is coming for sure.

Starting May 24, Pokemon Home can be linked to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Anyone does that so will be able to get their hands on special versions of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters, all of which with HIdden Abilities. These bonus Pokemon will be distributed as Mystery Gifts through Pokemon Home's mobile app, so Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players hoping to add them to their collection should keep that in mind.

Like other Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter Pokemon do not appear in the wild. This means that the only way for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players to get their hands on the other starters so far has been through trades, but this Pokemon Home update will now make it a lot easier for fans to catch 'em all. Of course, there are still hundreds of Pokemon that make up the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex, so even the most dedicated trainers are going to have an uphill battle ahead of them.

Even though there are hundreds of Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region, the games still leave out hundreds of others. Ever since Pokemon Sword and Shield, the main series Pokemon games have made it so fans can't literally catch them all. This has proven to be a controversial decision, but it's one that the developers don't seem to be reversing any time soon.

It's entirely possible that the Generation 10 Pokemon games will backpedal on these controversial changes, but that seems unlikely. The next main series Pokemon games likely won't be announced for years anyway, so fans won't have their answers for quite a while. In the meantime, Pokemon fans look forward to the Pokemon Home Scarlet and Violet update on May 24.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are out now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
