The Pokemon universe expanded with the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, introducing new creatures to the roster while welcoming back familiar faces from previous generations - though some of them are trapped. Despite a deep pool in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, one player discovers that a total of 25 Pokemon are still locked inside Pokemon Home and cannot be imported to any of the Switch games.

Released earlier in the month of November, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet debuted a total of 107 new Pokemon to catch, including the three starters and a handful of legendaries to catch. Some Pokemon from previous generations also return with regional forms, while Pokemon like Primeape received an update with a new evolution, bringing a refreshing new look to the past.

In a Reddit post that has accumulated over 2,000 upvotes in 24 hours, user sniperviper567 shares their list of 25 Pokemon that are currently unavailable to transport from Pokemon Home to any of the new Switch games, including Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Sword and Shield and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As they point out, every Pokemon listed happens to belong to generations five through seven, though a potential remake of Pokemon Black and White could bring an end to their days of being stored away in Pokemon Home. The list includes the Snivy and Tepig lines, the only remaining starters to not be transmittable — The Oshawott line was included in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

While Pokemon like the Kalos-region starters — Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie — are not currently in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, dataminers have discovered their source codes in the game, and could potentially start appearing in the Paldea region as soon as the announced Pokemon Home update is released, unlocking a wide variety of new additions to the game. Set for Spring of 2023, Pokemon trainers will have the capability of bringing over past-generation Pokemon into Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, expanding the game's roster and creating new possibilities for team building and tera-form construction.

Developer Game Freak has not made any announcement regarding why these specific Pokemon have yet to be included in any Switch game, nor has it made any reference to another remake or a potential Pokemon Legends: Arceus sequel, but that hasn't stopped players from speculating. Although the fifth generation of Pokemon appears to be the most prominent one featured, there are still a number of Pokemon missing from each generation, such as the original Pokemon Blue and Red showcasing just 43 of the original 151 Pokemon. For now, players will have to remain patient and tend to their Pokemon inside Pokemon Home until the day they are free from the shackles of the mobile and Switch app.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
