There are a lot of Pokemon out there...898, officially, to be exact. Each and every one of these Pokemon has its own set of stats when it comes to the games. There is Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed, and HP.

The amount of damage a Pokemon can take before fainting is referred to as HP. When in battle, HP is displayed by the horizontal bar which goes from green to yellow to red. Some Pokemon have more HP, others have less, but what stays the same for all is that once the Pokemon's HP reaches zero it is game over. Therefore, the more the merrier, right?

Updated December 2, 2022, by Suzail Ahmad: At some point, every player has to go through the hassle of choosing the right Pokemon for their team. While some people just focus on playing with their favorite Pokemon, others are more competitive and want to ensure that their team can face any opponent. Usually, the onus is on stats such as attack and speed, but the HP of a Pokemon is also quite important.

This stat could potentially change the course of a battle. If the opponent fails to knock out a player's Pokemon, it gives them an opportunity to launch a counterattack and win the fight. So, in certain situations, Pokemon with the highest HP are ideal and thus worth seeking out. With the release of multiple new games, there are many Pokemon with high HP, that trainers can place in their teams and this list covers all of them.

24 Vaporeon – 130 HP

Pokemon Vaporeon Water Day Ambassador
  • Type: Water
  • Best Nature: Calm
  • Weaknesses: Grass (2x), Electric (2x)

Each of the original Eeveelutions excels in one particular area. Jolteon is incredibly fast, Flareon can dish out huge physical damage and Vaporeon comfortably leads the way when it comes to HP. Despite many more Eeeveelutions having followed since gen 1 though, Vaporeon's 130 base HP still hasn't been beaten.

Though the rest of the Pokemon's stats are fairly lackluster, it does have a somewhat decent Special Attack stat and isn't too bad in the Special Defense department either. The latter, when combined with its high HP and limited weaknesses, makes it an incredibly durable Pokemon and a solid pick for those looking for a reliable non-legendary water-type Pokemon for their team.

23 Melmetal – 135 HP

Pokemon Melmetal Battle
  • Type: Steel
  • Best Nature: Adamant
  • Weaknesses: Fighting (2x), Ground (2x) Fire (2x)

Melmetal is a physical powerhouse with an impressive 135 base HP. Believe it or not though, this isn't even its highest stat, with both its Physical Attack and Physical Defense stats coming in at a mighty 143. Together with its steel-typing, this makes the Pokemon a very tough nut to crack.

Though there are undoubtedly better Pokemon out there, few are able to match Melmetal when it comes to sheer physical prowess. Its Iron Fist ability certainly helps in this regard too, granting a 120% power increase to all punch attacks bar Sucker Punch.

22 Munchlax – 135 HP

Munchlax & Professor Burnette
  • Type: Normal
  • Best Nature: Sassy
  • Weaknesses: Fighting (2x)

The unevolved form of Snorlax may look cute and cuddly on the outside, but, for a baby Pokemon, it's about as tough as they come. Its 135 HP and 85 Special Defense allow it to withstand quite a bit of punishment, while its 85 Physical Attack stat pairs well with moves like Body Slam and Earthquake.

Despite its somewhat impressive stats, the chances of coming up against a Munchlax in competitive play are fairly slim. The same cannot be said of its evolved form Snorlax, however, which receives a huge boost to all three aforementioned stats when it evolves.

21 Solgaleo – 137 HP

Solgaleo
  • Type: Psychic/Steel
  • Best Nature: Jolly
  • Weaknesses: Ground (2x), Ghost (2x), Fire (2x), Dark (2x)

Like any other legendary Pokemon, Solgaleo is very well-balanced with high base stats. Its highest come in the form of its Attack and HP.

With both 137 base HP and Attack, Solgaleo can dish out as much as it takes. High Defense and solid Special Defense make it so that this Alolan legendary won’t go down easy.

20 Lunala – 137 HP

psychic pokemon ranked lunala 4
  • Type: Psychic/Ghost
  • Best Nature: Modest
  • Weaknesses: Ghost (4x), Dark (4x)

Like Solgaleo, Lunala stands as one of the Pokemon with the highest HP in the franchise. While Solgaleo had matching base Attack, Lunala comes with higher Special Attack instead.

Both Cosmog evolutions seem to be pretty similar on paper. There are some slight differences in how certain stats are distributed, but the biggest disparity comes with their typing. Being Psychic/Ghost, Lunala has a devastating weakness to Ghost and Dark-type moves. Trainers should keep that in mind when using it in battle.

19 Wigglytuff – 140 HP

  • Type: Normal/Fairy
  • Best Nature: Timid
  • Weaknesses: Poison (2x), Steel (2x)

There aren't too many Pokemon who can out-stat a Legendary Pokemon, even if it's only in one particular area. Sadly though, Wigglytuff's 140 base HP is about all that the Pokemon has going for it, with none of its other stats surpassing 85. That said, it can be useful in certain scenarios.

When up against Pokemon with stat-decreasing moves, Wigglytuff's Competitive ability will increase the Pokemon's Special Attack by 2 for each stat that is lowered. Together with moves like Dazzling Gleam, this can give Wigglytuff an edge in certain situations, but it's still not a popular choice for competitive players.

18 Hariyama – 144 HP

Hariyama in the Pokemon anime
  • Type: Fighting
  • Best Nature: Adamant
  • Weaknesses: Flying (2x), Psychic (2x), Fairy (2x)

Despite its 144 HP, Hariyama is a bit of a glass cannon due to its mediocre defensive stats. Granted, it is a lot more durable than the likes of Pheromosa and Aegislash, but it's unlikely to survive too many hits from a half-decent sweeper. Thankfully, it has the power to make up for this.

The gen 3 fighting type has a Physical Attack stat of 120 and a learn set that includes powerful moves like Close Combat. Thanks to the Pokemon's Sheer Force hidden ability, the latter's attack power is increased by 30%, while its Guts ability can increase this by an additional 50% if Hariyama is afflicted with a status ailment.

17 Drifblim – 150 HP

Drifblim floating in a forest
  • Type: Ghost/Flying
  • Best Nature: Modest
  • Weaknesses: Rock (2x), Ghost (2x), Electric (2x), Ice (2x), Dark (2x)

According to Pokemon Ultra Moon, "The raw material for the gas inside its body is souls. When its body starts to deflate, it's thought to carry away people and Pokemon."

Thanks to all that raw material — you know, the souls of dead humans — Drifblim has a base HP stat of 150. In fact, it has the highest base HP stat of all the Flying-type Pokemon and ties Giratina when it comes to Ghost-type Pokemon. Drifblim is based on a hot air balloon and gets its name from a combination of "drift" and "blimp."

16 Giratina – 150 HP

  • Type: Ghost/Dragon
  • Best Nature: Relaxed
  • Weaknesses: Ice (2x), Dragon (2x), Fairy (2x), Ghost (2x), Dark (2x)

When it comes to discussing the highest HP Pokemon, it’s natural to see a few legendaries make their way into the conversation. Giratina’s massive frame leaves players with the impression that it’s hard to takedown, and its stats support that theory.

In both its Altered and Origin Forme, Giratina has 150 base HP. This is its highest stat by far. With especially high Attack and Defense stats to go alongside solid Speed, Giratina is tough to bring down and incredibly useful to have on your side.

15 Dondozo – 150 HP

Dondozo in the water
  • Type: Water
  • Best Nature: Relaxed
  • Weakness: Grass(2x), Electric (2x)

Dondozo is a ginormous Pokemon that has a height of 12m. Judging from its size, it is not hard to deduce that this Pokemon is all about physical attacks. According to Dondozo's PokeDex entry in Pokemon Violet, "It treats Tatsugiri like its boss and follows it loyally. Though powerful, Dondozo is apparently not very smart."

The three highest stats of Dondozo are: HP (150), Defense (115), and Attack (100). It only has a speed of 35, which makes it extremely important for the Pokemon to have high HP and Defense stats. Dondozo's high Attack combined with its Unaware ability can cause some hefty damage.

14 Slaking – 150 HP

Pokemon Slaking
  • Type: Normal
  • Best Nature: Jolly
  • Weaknesses: Fighting (2x)

According to Pokemon Omega Ruby, "Slaking spends all day lying down and lolling about. It eats grass growing within its reach. If it eats all the grass it can reach, this Pokemon reluctantly moves to another spot."

Related: Scarlet and Violet: Best Gen 9 Pokemon Based On Animals

Because Slaking does nothing all day except eating and chilling, it packs on enough calories to achieve a base HP stat of 150. It does not stop there too, Slaking even boasts the highest total base stat of all Pokemon (excluding Legendaries, Mythicals, and Mega Evolutions). Design-wise, it is based on a sloth, of course. Slaking's name is a combination of "slack" and "king."

13 Iron Hands – 154 HP

Iron Hands in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Fighting/Electric
  • Best Nature: Adamant
  • Weakness: Ground (2x), Fighting (2x), Fairy(2x)

Iron Hands was introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, making it one of the newer entries on the list. While it resembles Hariyama from Generation I, it doesn't evolve from Makuhita. Iron Hands could be considered a futuristic version of Hariyama.

Iron Hands is a Fighting/Electric type Pokemon, and it has a base HP of 154, which enables it to withstand multiple hits. The dual typing of the Pokemon makes it weak to just 3 types: Ground, Psychic, and Fairy. The design of the Pokemon is also pretty neat, and it will unquestionably be used by many players in the game.

12 Ting-Lu – 155 HP

Ting-Lu from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Dark/Ground
  • Best Nature: Adamant
  • Weakness: Fighting (2x), Bug, Water, Fairy, Grass, Ice

Ting-Lu is one of the new Legendary Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It is a member of the Treasures of Ruin, along with two other Legendary Pokemon. According to Pokemon Scarlet, "The fear poured into an ancient ritual vessel has clad itself in rocks and dirt to become a Pokemon."

Ting-Lu is a Dark/Ground-type Pokemon, and it does not have any other evolutions. Ting-Lu's highest stats are as follows: HP 155, Defense 125, and Attack 110. With its special ability, it can lower the special attack of other Pokemon by 25%.

11 Snorlax – 160 HP

The Snorlax Pokemon species
  • Type: Normal
  • Best Nature: Careful
  • Weaknesses: Fighting (2x)

According to Pokemon Sword, "It is not satisfied unless it eats over 880 pounds of food every day. When it is done eating, it goes promptly to sleep."

With a healthy diet indeed, Snorlax eats enough food and sleeps enough hours to net a base HP stat of 160. While not in the Top 10, its pre-evolution Munchlax has a high base HP stat too! Regarding origin, Snorlax takes inspiration from hibernating bears and pandas, food comas, and sloths. The name itself is a combination of "snore" and "relax."

10 Alomomola – 165 HP

Pokemon Alomomola
  • Type: Water
  • Best Nature: Bold
  • Weaknesses: Grass (2x), Electric (2x)

According to Pokemon White, "Floating in the open sea is how they live. When they find a wounded Pokemon, they embrace it and bring it to shore." There is no need to worry when spotting an Alomomola floating around defenseless in the ocean though, because it has a base HP stat of 165.

While not the most popular Pokemon, Alomomola was the first non-Legendary Pokemon from Generation V to appear in the Pokemon anime series. It is designed to be an ocean sunfish that looks like a heart. Alomomola's name is actually a palindrome! The inspiration for it is a combination of "Mola mola" (scientific name for ocean sunfish), "mom" (because it is the Caring Pokemon), and "aloha" (love in Hawaiian).

9 Cetitan – 170 HP

Cetitan from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Ice
  • Best Nature: Naughty
  • Weakness: Fighting (2x), Steel (2x), Fire (2x), Rock (2x)

Cetitan evolves from Cetoddle after it has been exposed to an Ice Stone. It is one of the many new Pokemon that have been added in Generation IX. It has a height of 4.5m and weighs 700kg, which makes it one of the heaviest Pokemon in the games, but that hasn't stopped the fans from loving this Cetitan.

Cetitan only has one type- Ice. It can have several abilities including Thick Fat, which combined with its astonishingly high HP of 170 makes it a very tanky Pokemon even against other Fire and Ice-type Pokemon.

8 Wailord – 170 HP

Pokemon Wailord
  • Type: Water
  • Best Nature: Modest
  • Weaknesses: Grass (2x), Electric (2x)

According to Pokemon Omega Ruby, "Wailord is the largest of all identified Pokemon up to now. This giant Pokemon swims languorously in the vast open sea, eating massive amounts of food at once with its enormous mouth."

Besides being the largest Pokemon ever, Wailord has a base HP stat of 170. In addition, this is the highest when it comes to Water-type Pokemon. Obviously, it is a blue whale, but Wailord also looks like a submarine. Its name is a combination of "whale" and "lord."

7 Wobbuffet – 190 HP

Pokemon Wobbuffet
  • Type: Psychic
  • Best Nature: Calm
  • Weaknesses: Bug (2x), Ghost (2x), Dark (2x)

According to Pokemon Omega Ruby, "If two or more Wobbuffet meet, they will turn competitive and try to outdo each other's endurance. However, they may try to see which one can endure the longest without food. Trainers need to beware of this habit."

The endurance competition might last forever because Wobbuffet has a base HP stat of 190. This is the highest when it comes to Psychic-type Pokemon too. It is based on a punching bag when it comes to design. Wobbuffet's name is a combination of "wobble" and "buffet" (not the food kind, meaning to strike repeatedly).

6 Regidrago – 200 HP

Regidrago Pokemon Sword Shield
  • Type: Dragon
  • Best Nature: Adamant
  • Weaknesses: Ice (2x), Dragon (2x), Fairy (2x)

The Regis all have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses that trainers should know about. Regidrago’s greatest asset comes with its ridiculously high base HP stat. With high Attack & Special Attack to go alongside solid Speed, this Pokemon would best be used as a glass cannon in battle.

All the HP in the world can’t make up for the abysmal Defense and Special Defense this new legendary is stuck with. So while Regidrago might have tons of health to work with, that bar is going to deplete quickly once it gets hit.

5 Zygarde – 216 HP

Pokemon Zygarde
  • Type: Dragon/Ground
  • Best Nature: Impish
  • Weaknesses: Dragon (2x), Fairy (2x), Ice (4x)

According to Pokemon Ultra Sun, "This is Zygarde's perfected form. From the orifice on its chest, it radiates high-powered energy that eliminates everything." Not the 10% Forme or the 50% Forme but the Complete Forme of Zygarde, the "perfected form," has a base HP stat of 216. Regarding Ground-type Pokemon, this is the highest.

Related: Pokemon With Types That Make No Sense

While the origin of its design is up to interpretation, Zygarde might be based on Fenrir, Jormungandr, and Hel — the three children of Loki and Angrbooa from Norse mythology. This is in regards to its three forms (10%, 50%, Complete), respectively. Name-wise, Zygarde resembles the letter "Z" as well as "garde," which is French for "guard."
