[Update: Pokemon White 2 & Pokemon Black 2 have been officially announced!]

Even after all these years, Pokemon is still very much alive and kicking. The last big adventure games, Pokemon Black and White, are just under a year old here in North America but I think it's safe to say that we're ready for another installment. It looks like fans are going to get their wish too - because a big Pokemon announcement is set to hit this weekend.

Game Freak's Game Director Junichi Masuda has confirmed via his blog that he'll be on the Japanese television show 'Pokemon Smash!' with some big news for Pokemon fans. Masuda stressed how "VERY" important this announcement will be, and encouraged everyone to tune in to watch the big reveal live. Unfortunately, 'Pokemon Smash!' only airs in Japan, so everyone here on the other side of the globe will have to wait a few excruciating minutes for the internet to spread the news.

Masuda's blog post has been translated into English, but it's still obviously very Japanese.

"On this coming Sunday, Februrary 26, 2012, from 7:30 A.M, I, Masuda, will be appearing on TV TOKYO’s Show, "Pokémon Smash"! Not only that. And there… I will be making a VERY important announcement, so be sure not to miss it!! Watch it live on TV! And, for those of you who can’t watch television on live, I will announce the same information right after the show via twitter! Everyone, I hope you all enjoy the show!! Ciao!"

The reveal is scheduled for 7:30am on a Sunday in Japan, which translates to 2:30pm PST Saturday afternoon over here.

This may finally be the day that The Pokemon Company and Nintendo announce the long-rumored Pokemon Gray, or they may just have news regarding another unwanted spin-off like Pokemon Rumble Blast. I'd put my money on a 3DS version of Pokemon Gray, but regardless of what the news turns out to be, you can expect full coverage on the announcement tomorrow, right here on Game Rant.
