The latest Pokemon GO 5-star Battle Raid rotation has arrived and that means there’s a new Legendary Pokemon for players to encounter and battle in the mobile AR raid. This time around is extra exciting as well because players have the chance to face off against Zamazenta for the very first time in the game.

Zamazenta, the shield Pokemon, has some serious potential to make a big splash on the Pokemon GO metagame, so lots of players are going to be eager to head out and battle it to earn some encounters over the next week. In order to get the most value out of those precious Raid Passes players should be sure to pull together a solid list of counters for the new challenger.

Zamazenta will be appearing in raids from Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The pokemon is a Fighting-type, which means players have the chance to exploit their weaknesses to Psychic-, Flying-, and Fairy-types. With that in mind, here are some of the top counters to bring to the fight against Zamazenta...

Best Zamazenta Counters

  • Mewtwo - Confusion/Psystrike
  • Gengar (Mega) - Lick/Psychic
  • Pidgeot (Mega) - Gust/Brave Bird
  • Metagross - Zen Headbutt/Psychic
  • Moltres - Wing Attack/Sky Attack
  • Rayquaza - Air Slash/Hurricane
  • Ho-Oh - Extrasensory/Brave Bird

  • Latios - Zen Headbutt/Psychic
  • Charizard (Mega Y) - Air Slash/Blast Burn

Players don’t need to be worried if they can’t field a roster full of this many top tier counters for the fight. Trainers just need to exploit Zamazenta’s weaknesses by hitting it with the best Fairy-, Flying-, and Psychic-type attacks available. Don’t be afraid to burn through some TMs, Stardust, or Rare Candy to help prepare the roster and avoid any failed attempts at this battle.

That should be just about everything players know about how to take down this Battle Raid boss, but we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the end of the Season of Discovery soon. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
