With creatures from generation 4 finally arriving in the mobile ARG Pokemon GO, many are wondering how will Niantic will handle the cross-generation evolutions. For the uninitiated, a number of Pocket Monsters from previous generations get a new evolution in Sinnoh such as Rhydon into Rhypherior, Magmar into Magmortar, and Eevee into Leafeon and Glaceon. With this being the case, if a recent item discovered in the network traffic is any indication, it could be the newly discovered and aptly titled item, the Sinnoh Stone.

Found by the well-known data miner Chrales, it seems Niantic is taking a one-stone-to-evolve-them-all approach, as this new Pokemon GO item is described as a "special stone originally found in the Sinnoh region that can make certain species of Pokemon evolve. It is very tough and has a beatific sheen." Of course, it is unconfirmed if this will be the sole method, but if so, this will make completing the Sinnoh Pokedex that much harder.

After all, special evolution items are hard to obtain in-game, but beyond that, the Sinnoh stone would be the only way to evolve several Pokemon. Nevertheless, this wouldn't be the first time a new item introduced to the game created some buzz, as the Silver Pinap berry still garners a lot of attention. Regardless, check out the cross-generation Pokemon that could be evolved by the Sinnoh stone below:

One important thing many diehard Pokemon lovers may note is that the Sinnoh Stone is not an official Pokemon/Game Freak item. In fact, the Sinnoh stone concept was first created by a fan in a knock off title that first appeared on the Roblox platform. Titled Project Pokemon, its development has since been abandoned and deleted, but this could be identified as the first time a fan-made concept was introduced into the game.

Despite the length that it could require players to go to finish the Sinnoh Pokedex, it seems likely this item will be well-received. After all, it's coming into the game at a time of many changes, including the introduction of gen 4 Pokemon and the Adventure Sync feature. Of course, it remains to be seen, but a number of players are likely ready to get their hands on a Glaceon or Leafeon.
