Trainers will soon encounter another level of immersion in Pokemon GO with the introduction of a dynamic weather system. This new system is being implemented to encourage players to head outdoors, regardless of the conditions, by providing trainers with a few incentives.

The new system will alter the Pokemon GO in-game map to reflect the local weather happening in a trainer's neck of the woods. Rainy, snowy, foggy, partly cloudy, windy, and even sunny weather will change the appearance of the map, and the specific condition will be noted with a small icon on the screen.

It's more than fancy visuals, however. As one might guess, the weather will have an impact on the Pokemon in the area. Different weather will draw out certain Pokemon types, which will make them more common depending on the conditions outside. For example, if it's a rainy day, trainers might encounter Mudkip more often than they usually would.

What's more, weather will also have an effect on the attacks of certain Pokemon. Fire type attacks will be more effective on a sunny day, while an ice type might have an advantage when it snows.

In addition to a new weather system, Niantic has announced plans to add more generation 3 Pokemon into the game. At least 50 new Pokemon from the Hoenn region are expected to start appearing. This will begin, appropriately, with Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, the starters from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, being introduced later this week. The rest of generation 3 will gradually be introduced over the winter.

A few months back, a small sampling of generation 3 Pokemon were introduced during the Pokemon GO Halloween event, but were mainly restricted to ghost types. Over the next few weeks, trainers will be able to round out their collections with a myriad of other Pokemon from that generation.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices in select regions.
