Pokemon GO shiny collectors may have thought they were in for a break with the Adventure Week spawns and Ho-Oh going away, but that's not the case. The Pokemon GO Water Festival is back and this year it is bringing with it at least two very exciting shiny variants for trainers to track down.

Shiny pokemon aren't different from regular pokemon in any way aside from aesthetics, but gamers still love to hunt them down. They look cool in the collection and it's fun to show them off to friends or leave them in Gyms as defenders. When the Water Festival event kicks off in a few hours, trainers will be able to start adding shiny Shellder and shiny Kyogre to their collections... Assuming they're lucky enough to find and catch them.

Here are the hints from Niantic about the incoming shiny forms...

"Some lucky Trainers may even encounter a rare Shiny Shellder for the very first time during the event!"

"... And, if you challenge Kyogre during the event and come out victorious, there is a chance you’ll encounter its Shiny form!"

At this point, Niantic has not released any images of the incoming shiny pokemon. It seems very likely that within the first few hours of the event players will start catching the shiny monsters and sharing images.

Finding shiny pokemon mostly boils down to luck, but trainers can try to increase their chances by entering as many encounters with the potentially shiny pokemon as possible. This sometimes means just clicking the pokemon and then running away without catching if it isn't shiny. That method, called shiny checking, is very popular among the hardcore playerbase.

Good luck out there, trainers!
