It's been confirmed that the Water Festival event that's currently playing out in Pokemon GO will come to a close later on today. The festivities will end at 4PM EST, which means that trainers only have a matter of hours to take advantage of its bonuses.
The Water Festival got underway last week, giving players a better chance of catching certain water Pokemon, as well as the opportunity to snag the Magikarp Hat accessory. Niantic has run several limited time Pokemon GO events in the past, but this is the first one that isn't linked to a real-world holiday.
The biggest draw of this particular event was the ability to catch a shiny Magikarp. There's currently no indication whether the shiny version of the flopping fish will be harder to catch once the event is ended, but it seems likely that more shiny Pokemon will be introduced to the game going forward.
Players seem to have responded favorably to the Water Festival event, so expect to see more content like this going forward. There's a good chance that we'll see smaller type-specific events used to keep the game's audience invested between the bigger updates Niantic has planned for 2017.
Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
