The new rotation of Pokemon GO Battle Raid bosses has arrived and that means there are three Legendary creatures up for grabs. Although all three have already appeared in the mobile AR experience, this is still a great opportunity to battle and secure encounters with higher IV spawns of Terrakion, Cobalion, and Virizion.

The current rotation of Battle Raid bosses is only sticking around for a single week (during the HOME Celebration event), which means that trainers should start battling soon if they want to maximize their chances of catching close to perfect versions of this trio. The best way to do that is to maximize efficiency by ensuring that each battle goes as smoothly as possible so there is no wasted time or, even worse, wasted Battle Raid passes. In order to ensure easy victories against Virizion and the other Legendary creatures up for grabs, Pokemon GO trainers should update their counter rosters and head into each fight with the strongest team possible.

A lot has changed in the world of PoGO since Virizion first appeared as a Battle Raid boss, so players who have an old counter roster saved are going to want to make some major updates. New evolutions, new movesets, and Mega Evolutions have totally reshaped the PoGO PvE metagame and there are some new very strong options for taking down the Gen V Grass-/Fighting-type. Although there are a handful of weaknesses to expose, that pairing makes Virizion particularly vulnerable to Flying-types, so that is the best place to focus when forming a roster. Other weaknesses worth pointing out include Psychic-, Fire-, Fairy-, Ice-, and Poison-type attacks.

Like most Legendary Battle Raids, Virizion can technically be taken down with three, but the average players are going to want to form groups of five or six to avoid any issues with the fight. Taking down the boss with fewer than five would require all the right weather and friendship bonuses, along with a very skilled group and powerful counter rosters optimized for the fight.

Pidgeot (Mega) - Wing Attack/Brave Bird

Moltres - Wing Attack/Sky Attack

Charizard (Mega Y) - Air Slash /Blast Burn

Rayquaza - Air Slash/Aerial Ace

Honchkrow - Peck/Sky Attack

Staraptor - Wing Attack/Brave Bird

Tornadus - Air Slash/Hurricane

Braviary - Air Slash/Brave Bird

Unfezant - Air Slash/Sky Attack

Mewtwo - Confusion/Psystrike

Ho-Oh - Extrasensory/Brave Bird

Zapdos - Charge Beam/Drill Peck

Virizion is going to be a little harder to defeat than Terrakion, but players who take the time to form a smart counter roster based on the recommendations above shouldn't have a major problem taking it down with a few friends. If the listed options aren't available, just remember that any other Pokemon equipped with Flying-type moves would be a solid alternative.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
