In early January Pokemon GO launched a new event feature called Collection Challenges and it seems like the new mechanic is here to stay. The upcoming Valentine's Day 2021 event is going to feature yet another Collection Challenge, seemingly confirming that the recurring feature should be expected with most events going forward.

The Valentine's Day 2021 event is a bit more exciting than the usual V-Day holiday in the mobile AR game. In some previous Pokemon GO Valentine's Day there was little more than a couple of special red or pink spawns. This time around there's a more extensive list of bonuses and even some special Battle Raid bosses appearing.

One of the primary features of the Valentine's Day festivities is going to be the Collection Challenge. This is a fairly tough one and is going to involve partaking in at least a handful of Legendary Battle Raids, so players should be sure to get their counter rosters and Raid Passes ready to go.

To help prepare for the big event, which kicks off on February 14, trainers can now take a sneak peek at the Pokemon who will be included in the collection challenge list...

Espeon

Umbreon

Plusle

Minun

Volbeat

Illumise

Luvdisc

Latias

Latios

Alomomola

Valentine's Collection Challenge Rewards

Five Silver Pinap Berries

One Lucky Egg

One Egg Incubator

At least a handful of these Pokemon are going to be easy enough to catch thanks to increased sightings in the wild. A few others are sure to present some challenges though. Latios and Latias, for example, are Legendary Pokemon who players will need to face off against in 5-star Battle Raids. That means players will need to team up with some friends and burn a few Raid Passes in order to even get the chance to encounter and try to catch those two.

This certainly increases the difficulty level of the collection challenge and makes things quite a bit more interesting. The rewards are decent, but not a huge increase in value over what we've seen before.

The event also offers the opportunity to add two new Pokedex entries, so it is likely going to be a pretty popular one for both casual fans and the hardcore collectors. Things wrap up on February 18, so trainers should be sure to take advantage of the bonuses during the short four day period when they are live.
