Although some Pokemon GO players are still working through the massive quest chain to receive their first Mew, there are many players who finished the Mythical Discovery arc weeks ago and have been staring at a blank Special Research tab ever since. That page of the user interface seems to have just received a small update.

The latest update for Pokemon GO makes some minor tweaks to the whole Research feature interface. The main way that Special Research is impacted is that the page is no longer blank for users who have already completed the Mew quests. Instead, the Mythic Discovery story is listed as completed, and it seems like there is now room for a second Special Research story for sometime in the future.

Although a new Special Research arc hasn't been released yet, it certainly seems like Niantic is setting the stage for one (or more). Fans have started speculating that perhaps there will be a new Special Research assignment released during Adventure Week or perhaps during GO Fest. Niantic has not confirmed either of these theories.

The update also featured some minor interface changes to the Field Tasks side of Research, as well. The binoculars have been removed and the Field/Special buttons have been moved to the top. This frees up some space and makes the interface a little more clean.

We'll continue scouring the update for more changes and post updates as we find them. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
