Just recently, the game developer Niantic implemented a brand new event for Pokemon GO that acknowledges the Lunar New Year, with the mobile augmented reality title's Year of the Dog event going on now. In celebration of the event, the company increased spawns of Growlithe, Poochyena, Electrike, Snubbull, and Eevee, and also managed to incorporate a surprise for fans by adding two new Shiny Pokemon into the mix as well.

As seen in the screenshot below from the SilphRoad community member and Pokemon GO trainer known as "Albert83BCN", Niantic has added a Shiny Poochyena for players to discover out in the wild. Instead of its original gray and charcoal colors, the Shiny Poochyena is adorned with gold and brown hues. With this being the case, it means that Shiny versions of Mightyena are also available in the mobile ARG by way of evolution.

Pokemon GO has brought five different Shiny Pokemon into the game over the last few days, for in addition to Poochyena and Mightyena, the title has also added Shiny versions of Swablu, Altaria, and Luvdisc in concurrence with different in-game events. These are far from the only Shiny Pokemon that have made their way into the ARG, though, as Niantic has added a plethora of these uncommon creatures in the past.

For the uninitiated, Shiny Pokemon are simply variant colored versions of PoGO's Pocket Monsters that have no advantage in battle, but are typically rare to encounter while on the hunt to catch 'em all, which is why many would-be trainers are excited to add them to their collection. As a matter of fact, coming across Shiny Pokemon is so out of the ordinary that one dedicated Pokemon GO fan recently put together a helpful chart showing how players can catch every Shiny in the game.

Taking all of this into account, with Pokemon GO's Shiny creatures being some of the most coveted finds in the ARG, it's highly likely that Niantic will add even more at a later date. As it so happens, there's a possibility for more Shiny variants to crop up in the near future, as a Safari Zone event in Taiwan held in conjunction with the Chiaya Lantern Festival later this month features Chinchou and Lanturn, which is a sign to many trainers that the creatures' Shiny versions will appear soon. Also, a Community Day event featuring Dratini is on the horizon, which Niantic could use as a means to add a Shiny variant of the Dragon-type to the game.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS.
