New Pokemon GO update in the works, Niantic claims that update will bring back the Capture Location feature, as well as fix issues with Pokemon GO Plus.

Niantic released Pokemon GO Plus a week ago, which, for the retail price of $35, gives players a wrist accessory that allows them to play the game without being glued to their phones while walking around. While specific sales figures for Pokemon GO Plus aren’t yet available, it seems that the release was a success, with multiple online retailers listing the item as “out of stock,” while sellers on eBay have them listed for around $100 a piece.

Niantic is undoubtedly hopeful that the release of Pokemon GO Plus will breathe new life into the augmented reality game, which has lost 79% of its player total since its peak in July. However, like many things in Pokemon GO’s history, the release of Pokemon GO Plus was not without its flaws; Android users complained that the wrist accessory wasn’t properly syncing with their Android device.

Today Niantic announced that they were in the process of updating Pokemon GO for both Android and iOS. Here’s what Niantic had to say about the update:

Pokémon GO updated to version 0.39.0 for Android and 1.9.0 for iOS:

Trainers,

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.39.0 for Android and 1.9.0 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

  • Capture location: The location where a Pokémon was caught will now be displayed on their information screen.
  • Pokémon GO Plus and Incense: Trainers can attempt to capture Pokémon they encounter from using Incense with the Pokémon GO Plus accessory.
  • Minor bug fixes

We appreciate your continued support and have some exciting features and changes coming soon.

From what can be gathered from Niantic’s announcement, it appears that this update will not address the issue that Android users were having with the Pokemon GO Plus accessory, but it does fix a few features while bringing one back, though in a slightly different form.

The update brings back the “capture location” feature that was removed in an earlier update due to the feature being effectively broken. However, in its original form the “capture location” feature was displayed as a little map in the Pokemon info screen. In its new form the capture location has been downgraded to just a line of text with the city and state. The update also fixes the problem players were having with not being able to capture Pokemon that were attracted using incense in conjunction with the Pokemon GO Plus accessory.

While this update does address some of the issues that plague Pokemon GO, many players were undoubtedly hopeful that this latest update would introduce player vs. player battles. But it appears that those trainers will just have to wait a little longer.
