Pokemon GO has been invaded by Team Rocket, and now the nefarious Pokemon-stealing group even have their own Special Research event. The new Team Rocket Special Research, A Troubling Situation, is one of the shortest Special Research quests in Pokemon GO so far, but fans of the popular augmented reality mobile game may still want a head's up of what to expect from each step.

As can be expected, A Troubling Situation focuses on the new gameplay mechanics introduced to Pokemon GO with the debut of Team Rocket. In many ways, this new Special Research is designed so that players can better learn how to handle the Team Rocket grunts and catch Shadow Pokemon in the game.

Here are all the tasks players have to complete to finish A Troubling Situation in Pokemon GO.

Step 1

  • Evolve 2 Pokemon - Murkrow
  • Power up Pokemon 5 times - Sableye

After completing this step, Pokemon GO players will also earn 1,000 Stardust and 2,000 XP.

Step 2

  • Catch 2 Shadow Pokemon - Ekans
  • Defeat 3 Team Rocket Grunts - Koffing

This step will be difficult for Pokemon GO players who don't have tough Pokemon, as fighting Team Rocket Grunts is no walk in the park. Team Rocket Grunts, by the way, can be found and battled at specially marked, black PokeStops.

Defeat at least three Team Rocket Grunts and catch two Shadow Pokemon to get 2,000 Stardust, 2,000 XP, and 5 Golden Razz Berries.

Step 3

  • Purify 3 Shadow Pokemon - 3,000 XP
  • Purify a Fire-, Water-, or Grass-type Pokemon - 3,000 XP

To purify Shadow Pokemon in Pokemon GO, players need to simply the stated amount of candy and Stardust.

Completing this step will net players 2,000 Stardust, 5 Silver Pinap Berries, and 1 Rare Candy.

Step 4

Step 4 is completed automatically, but it comes with a bunch of rewards for Pokemon GO players to enjoy. These rewards include 2,000 Stardust, 1,000 XP, 1 Charged TM, 1 Fast TM, and 3 Rare Candy.

Unlike many of the other Special Research quests in Pokemon GO, like the quest to catch Mew, players can easily complete the Team Rocket Special Research in just one day of playing the game. As previously stated, it's more of a way to introduce Pokemon GO players to Team Rocket and the concept of Shadow Pokemon, but it's definitely worth doing for the rewards alone.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
