Pokemon GO players are about to gain access to ton of fresh new content, including more Gen 3 characters as well as the dynamic weather system. But that's not all, as some fans have uncovered information about a new item that is headed to the game as well.

As Niantic prepares to make more Gen 3 Pokemon available in the game, it has rolled out a new Pokemon GO update (Android 0.85.1). Pokemon GO player and famed dataminer Chrales has dug into this update only to find files about new items and content that may also be released in the game soon.

One such item is something called 'Star Piece,' which, according to the item type description that has also been datamined, it will offer players a boost to their Stardust rewards. Activating a Star Piece will reportedly double the amount of Stardust that players receive for 30 minutes and that timer will continue to countdown whether a player is in the game or not. Images of the Star Piece item can be found below.

The datamined update does not state how much that Star Pieces will cost from the in-game store. However, Niantic is expected to offer Star Piece bundles that contain eight or 25 pieces each. Though, it's unclear exactly when Star Pieces and the Star Piece bundles will be made available in the game as the datamined files are just evidence that the item will be released at some point.

Pokemon GO players will be hoping that Star Pieces are released soon though, as it would allow them to use the items in conjunction with the other Stardust-boosting events. For example, the upcoming weather system will boost Stardust rewards for catching certain Pokemon types during certain weather conditions. If a Star Piece is activated alongside the weather system, players could potentially rack up huge Stardust rewards.

It's also worth noting that the weather system will allow players to boost the effectiveness of certain Pokemon. As Stardust is used to improve CP and HP stats, tactical Pokemon GO players will be able to use the Star Piece Stardust bonuses and the weather system to make incredibly powerful teams.

Moreover, a Pokemon GO holiday 2017 event is also being planned. If the event is anything like previous, seasonal events then it should also offer increased (usually double) Stardust bonuses. Again, players could bring in heaps of Stardust if they use a Star Piece too.
