After months of waiting, Niantic finally introduced Gen 3 Pokemon to Pokemon GO this week. The Gen 3 characters will be available in the wild during the duration of the Halloween event and so it begs the question: where is the best place to capture them?

According to an event alert sent out by the world-famous coffee chain, Starbucks, the best place for Pokemon GO players to capture Gen 3 characters is in Starbucks locations. The coffee company explains that between 3-6PM every day from October 20 until November 2, participating locations will be hosting a 'Lure-A-Thon'. This lure-a-thon offers an "increased chance to catch newly added spooky Pokemon".

It's currently unclear whether the Starbucks lures will be luring any and all Pokemon in the vicinity to its locations or whether the coffee company's lures have special, Gen 3-specific powers. However, given that there is at least one variation of shiny Gen 3 Pokemon (shiny Sableye) available in the wild right now, it's hard to pass up any increased chance to capture them. Especially as some fans are beginning to speculate that shiny Sableye may not be the only shiny variation of a Gen 3 Pokemon that Niantic has chosen to add to the game.

Pokemon GO Starbucks Gen 3 promotion details

If Starbucks is able to draw Gen 3 Pokemon specifically to its locations, then it's understandable that fans who do not live in close proximity to a Starbucks will be disappointed. This would be just the latest thing these fans have missed out on as a result of Niantic's partnership with the coffee company.

While it's one thing for fans to miss out on the special Pokemon GO-themed frappucino that Starbucks began selling last year, it's another to miss out on things like the EX raid battles. EX raid battle testing is currently taking place and in North America, most of these test locations happen to be at Starbucks (though non-sponsored test locations are expected in future). Rural Pokemon GO players have already expressed frustration at being 'left out' of the game's most interesting features and this will only exacerbate those concerns.

Unfortunately for disgruntled players who can't make it to a Starbucks this Halloween, it seems likely that Niantic will only continue to host events with the coffee company in future. Pokemon GO may have made $1 billion, but this partnership is also proving to be lucrative for both companies. That's bad news for those who don't live anywhere near a Starbucks, but brilliant for Pokemon GO players who already visit the coffee chain every day to get their caffeinated fix.
