It's business as usual with Niantic, as the company has continually announced Pokemon GO's next Community Day event shortly after the end of the previous, and this time is no different. Following Larvitar's event, the first-generation Water-type starter Squirtle takes the stage on July 8, 2018. Notably, this announcement follows the reveal of the upcoming friends and trading feature, so it's a good time to be a fan of this mobile ARG.

As with previous events, there will be a three hour period where Squirtle spawns at a much higher rate than normal in Pokemon GO. Squirtle's Community Day event is slated to begin at 1 PM CDT and comes with a number of bonuses.

Lure modules will continue to last for three hours during the event, instead of the standard thirty minutes, and Eggs will hatch at a quarter of the typical distance, meaning 10km eggs will hatch at 2.5km. All in all, it's shaping up to be a standard Community Day event, which some fans are finding lackluster.

Prior to Niantic's official confirmation, many believed that Squirtle would be the featured Pokemon, but that doesn't make a portion of the Community very happy. Due to subpar stats and a lackluster shiny variant, many fans are clamoring for Niantic to add the sunglasses variant of Squirtle to the game, in lieu of the standard shiny variant. It remains to be seen if Niantic listens to its community on this concern, but doing so would likely prevent another backlash like Mareep Day.

Although Niantic has officially confirmed Squirtle's Community Day, it has yet to confirm the exclusive move, as that typically happens closer to the event date. However, a recent datamine revealed that Hydro Cannon will be added to mobile ARG in the next update, so it stands to reason that will be the exclusive move. Regardless, whether Niantic adds the sunglasses variant or if Hydro Cannon is actually the exclusive move, Community Day is a popular Pokemon GO event, even for those who may be experiencing some form of event fatigue.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
