Pokemon GO's Adventure Week event is well underway, giving players the chance to catch a variety of rare rock-type Pokemon. New raid bosses have also been added to the game as part of the Adventure Week event, but one tier 3 raid boss is giving players a surprising amount of trouble, especially those who have attempted to defeat it solo.

Shuckle, the dual bug/rock-type Pokemon who is known for being a very rare egg hatch in Pokemon GO, is currently a tier 3 raid boss, and one that may be impossible to defeat solo. Pokemon GO site Pokemon GO Hub has determined that defeating Shuckle solo is basically impossible, as the creature has 396 Defense and 3,000 HP. Players are simply unable to deal enough damage in the allotted time, meaning that while Shuckle is highly unlikely to actually defeat solo raiders in a fight due to its low attack stat, the clock will run out and players will fail regardless.

While Shuckle is apparently impossible to defeat solo, players are able to defeat it with at least one other person helping them deal damage. With that in mind, here are the best counters to Shuckle in Pokemon GO:

shuckle pokemon anime
  • Kyogre with Waterfall and Hydro Pump
  • Gyarados with Waterfall and Hydro Pump
  • Tyranitar with Iron Tail and Stone Edge
  • Golem with Rock Throw and Stone Edge
  • Dragonite with Steel Wing and Draco Meteor
  • Metagross with Bullet Punch and Flash Cannon
  • Rayquaza with Dragon Tail and Outrage

Even if solo players go in with high level versions of the Pokemon listed above, they will still be unable to beat Shuckle before the timer runs out. However, a team of two or more with the Pokemon listed above should stand a fairly good shot at defeating Shuckle and adding the rare Pokemon to their collection.

While Shuckle has proven to be a surprisingly formidable foe, the other Pokemon added to raids as part of the Adventure Week event, like Aerodactyl for instance, can be beaten by solo players. So even though Shuckle may be out of reach, at least solo players can still defeat most of the other tier 3 and lower raid bosses - assuming they have the right Pokemon for the job.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
