Happy Zapdos Day, trainers! For three hours today, the Pokemon GO community will be celebrating by taking down tons of Zapdos raids in hopes of earning a shiny version of the Legendary bird. Unfortunately, this shiny isn't quite as dramatically different as most of the others.

The shiny sprite for Zapdos is actually so similar to the regular version, that it's hard to tell them apart if you miss the stars that appear at the beginning of the encounter. Pokemon GO players have know this would be a problem, or at least a disappointment, for a while; but the day has finally arrived when it is actually relevant.

Zapdos Day has already begun in some regions, so screenshots are starting to appear that confirm what the shiny version looks like. Here's a side-by-side comparison sneak peek...

The shiny is on the right, but without the stars in the background it might be hard to tell. The easiest way to quickly spot the shiny version seems to be by checking the beak and feet. Those both are darker and have a bit of an orange tint.

Even though this shiny isn't the most visually exciting, it still seems like Zapdos Day with be a very popular event. The five free raid passes is a great incentive to get out and play for a few hours. Check back in throughout the day for updates and more details about how things are going.

Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
