Pokemon GO's Unova Celebration Event is still running, with players having until 8:00 pm in their local times on January 10, 2021 to participate. This event includes special field research tasks as well as collection challenges.

Like many of the events appearing in Pokemon GO, it introduces more shiny forms of Pokemon already added into the game. With Tepig being one of the three starter Pokemon from the Unova region, some may be wondering if Tepig and its evolutions are included with these Pokemon.

It may be surprising to some Pokemon GO players to find out that none of the Unova starters had their shiny forms in-game before this event. Other Unova Pokemon such as the Lillipup evolutionary line already had their shiny forms implemented, as well as the Roggenrola line.

Pokemon Tepig

Unfortunately for fans of this little fire pig and its evolutions, Tepig cannot appear as a shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO as of January 9, 2021. The Unova grass-type starter Snivy and its evolutionary line, however, can appear as shiny Pokemon thanks to this event.

Once shiny Tepig is added, players will be able to tell the difference between a normal and a shiny Tepig mainly through its base color. While an ordinary Tepig has bright orange skin covering its body, a shiny Tepig is instead colored with a bright yellow instead. This yellow coloration stays when a shiny Tepig evolves into Pignite. Everything changes when Pignite evolves into Emboar, as Emboar's red flames and yellow swirl patterns are changed to a purple and blue color scheme.

Despite players being unable to currently find a shiny Tepig, players can still take advantage of the Unova Celebration Event with its various increased spawns. Tepig is included in these increased spawns, as well as the other Unova starters and Pokemon from the region.

If players catch a Tepig, its best moveset for maximum DPS is having Ember for its fast move and Flamethrower for its charge move. After evolving into Pignite by using 25 Tepig Candies, this moveset will stay the same, though the Pokemon gains a secondary fighting-type. Once players evolve Pignite by using 100 Tepig Candies, the best moveset for Emboar has it knowing Low Kick for its fast move and Focus Blast for its charge move.

After the Unova Celebration Event some players might have some trouble finding Tepig due to the upcoming Sinnoh Celebration Event, which will change up the spawns once again. Now is the perfect time to look for one.
