When Niantic announced that Lugia would be returning to its augmented reality title, Pokémon GO, fans of the game may have been excited for multiple reasons. Players who missed the legendary Pokémon last time now have another chance to catch it, and Lugia even has a new and improved Sky Attack as its charge move. But it seems there’s yet another reason to be excited about the return of this powerful Psychic- and Flying-type Pokémon.

Reportedly, players have been catching shiny variants of the legendary in-game, with the shiny legendary having magenta markings instead of blue. This unique variation makes Lugia the first legendary to have a shiny form, and considering Lugia was the first legendary to appear in Pokémon GO last July and August, it’s rather fitting for it to be the first to receive a shiny.

However, it remains unknown whether this shiny Lugia has an increased spawn rate or if it has the standard rate of shiny Pokémon. It is also worth noting that, during the actual Raid Battle, Lugia appears in his normal form, only appearing as a shiny once the catch screen appears. Check out an in-game shiny Lugia below:

The best way to catch a Shiny Lugia is to participate in as many raids as possible; however, that’s not as easy as it sounds. Not only would you need a party powerful enough to take on the legendary, but the recent time change due to daylight savings has also been causing Raid Battle problems. Still, trainers who persevere could be rewarded with a powerful, shiny legendary, which is a powerful incentive to wake up a little early.

Lugia will only appear in raid battles until April 2, so players who want this legendary and a chance at its shiny form need to act quick. However, in the excitement of this shiny legendary, players don’t need to forget about the upcoming Bulbasaur Community Day on March 25, which may very well offer players yet another shiny Pokémon if it follows the previous Community Days. With all of these events, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokémon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
