A couple of days ago, Niantic made the surprising announcement that the November Field Research breakthrough reward in Pokemon GO wouldn't be a legendary Pokemon, but rather, the third generation Pokemon Shedninja. However, excitement over Shedninja making its debut seems to have overshadowed another Field Research bonus coming in November: the chance for players to catch a shiny Caterpie.

Some November 2018 Field Research tasks in Pokemon GO will have Caterpie as a Pokemon encounter reward, with the chance of it being shiny. Once players manage to get their hands on a shiny Caterpie, they can then evolve it into a shiny Metapod, and then finally a shiny Butterfree to complete the set.

At this point, it's unclear exactly how rare shiny Caterpie will be in Pokemon GO. It's possible that very few people will actually catch the elusive creature in November, but it's also possible that Niantic greatly ups the spawn rate of shiny Caterpies. Usually increased shiny spawns are reserved for Community Day events, but anything is possible.

Speaking of Community Day, we know that shiny Caterpie isn't the only shiny Pokemon that's going to be added to Pokemon GO in November. When Cyndaquil Community Day kicks off on November 10, players can expect greatly increased spawn rates of shiny Cyndaquil for a three hour window. Like Caterpie, Cyndaquil can evolve two times, and so there's quite a few shiny Pokemon being added to Pokemon GO in November.

Pokemon GO trainers will also have a chance at adding a shiny Gengar to their collection as well. Saturday, November 3 is Gengar Day, with players once again having a three hour window to work with as they battle the ghost-type Pokemon in raids. As we saw with previous raid events, players will be gifted five free raid passes to start the day off right.

From Gengar to Caterpie, it's clear that November is set to bring with it a slew of new shiny Pokemon, so those wanting a complete collection should be sure to play the game as much as possible in the coming weeks.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
