Each month, Niantic runs a special Community Day for Pokemon GO players that gives them the opportunity to catch shiny Pokemon as well as enjoy other bonuses. October 2018's Community Day is today, and it will give players the chance to catch a shiny Beldum, which they can then evolve into a shiny Metang and shiny Metagross. For Pokemon GO players who want to participate and catch a shiny Beldum, Community Day begins at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific and will last for three hours.

Besides the chance to catch a shiny Beldum and add a shiny Metagross to their collection, Pokemon GO players have other reasons to participate in Community Day. If they manage to evolve Beldum all the way to Metagross within the three hour Community Day window, they will get a Metagross with the powerful exclusive move Meteor Mash. They can also look forward to three hour lures, as well as incubators that will hatch eggs four times faster.

While players are out collecting shiny Beldums, they can also participate in raids. Various fourth generation Pokemon have been added to raids, plus players can take on Mewtwo in legendary raids before he is removed on October 23 and possibly replaced by Giratina.

Gen 4 Pokemon are also appearing in the wild, so while players are out and about, they can work on completing their Sinnoh Pokedex. At the time of this writing, there are 20 Gen 4 Pokemon available in Pokemon GO, though some of them are region-exclusive and won't be available without traveling or trading.

Some Gen 4 Pokemon are also available through hatching eggs, with Riolu hatching out of 10km eggs. The 4x egg hatching rate that will be available during Community Day will give players the opportunity to hatch more Riolus than usual, and there's even a chance for a shiny Riolu that could be evolved into a shiny Shinx.

In the meantime, some Pokemon GO fans may be wondering what to expect from future Community Day events. Many fans believe Cyndaquil will be featured in November's Community Day, but that has yet to be confirmed or denied by Niantic. More information on that front should become available early next month.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
