After months of anticipation, a slew of third generation Pokemon were finally added to Pokemon GO earlier today. Pokemon GO enthusiasts the world over have been out catching the new Pokemon, and so far fans have discovered that there's at least two new shiny Pokemon variants available to catch.

Pokemon GO fans have caught shiny variants for both Absol and Mawile. While these are the only shiny variants found so far, there's a chance that even more third generation Pokemon have shiny variants. We should have a better idea of all the new shinies added to the game as more data is collected over the next few days.

It should also become clearer if these shiny variants can be found in the wild or only in raids. Those that have managed to catch third generation shiny Pokemon seem to have mainly gotten them in raids, as opposed to finding them out in the wild like most other shiny Pokemon in the game.

With shiny Absol and shiny Mawile both confirmed for Pokemon GO, it appears as though Niantic is dedicated to making shiny variants to as many third generation Pokemon as possible. After all, the ghost-type third generation Pokemon that were added to the game a couple of months ago as part of its Halloween event already have shiny variants, meaning there's already more gen 3 shinies than any other generation in the game.

This is a bit strange, but perhaps Niantic's plan is to add more gen 1 and gen 2 shiny Pokemon to the game later on as a way to keep fans satisfied between more substantial content updates. Alternatively, the studio may not have a concrete plan for introducing shiny Pokemon, and fans will just be pleasantly surprised whenever a new one is discovered in the game.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
