Trainers continue to stay busy in late August as a series of large and small events continue to roll out in Pokemon GO. In addition to the ongoing Ultra Unlock Reward events that are underway, there are also the usual monthly and weekly events coming and going like this week’s Spotlight and Raid Hour activities.

The excitement for this week kicks off tonight with another Spotlight event that is going to offer players a chance to encounter an exciting Pokemon and enjoy a limited time bonus that will help them rack up some extra Candy. The fun then continues tomorrow with the return of another Legendary Raid Hour in Pokemon GO that gives players a chance to score some encounters with a powerful Legendary Battle Raid boss.

Both events are firing off shortly so now would be the ideal time for trainers to take a minute and prepare. The spotlight event can be started without too much work ahead of time, but it would be wise for players to take a bit of time to prepare an ideal counter roster before the Palkia Raid Hour...

Shellos Spotlight Event

Tuesday 17th August 6pm till 7pm local time we have West Sea Shellos as the featured Pokémon for spotlight hour, along with a 2x candy bonus for catching Pokémon.

Palkia Raid Hour

On Wednesday 18th August 6pm till 7pm local time we have Palkia Raid Hour.

Be sure to review our latest Palkia Battle Raid counters guide before heading out to the big fight to prepare a solid roster that can take advantage of the Legendary Pokemon’s weaknesses. For starters, trainers are going to want to utilize strong Dragon- and Fairy-types to take down this Legendary creature. Dragon-types a little rare in the mobile AR game, so this is going to be one of the tougher rosters to field for more casual or newer players.

To start, here are a couple of the best counters to prepare:

Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Palkia - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor

Salamence - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor

Zekrom - Dragon Breath/Outrage

Gyarados (Mega) - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Dragonite - Dragon Tail Outrage

That should be just about everything players know to dive into both events and get started. In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the rest of the Season of Discovery. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
