Pokemon GO is a game that largely revolves around a series of rotating events. The game carries on when there are no events active, but there's no denying that the core gameplay loop often is largely designed around players logging in to completed limited time challenges (like this week's HOME Celebration event) or take advantage of bonuses that are only available because of particular events. The GO Beyond update aims to shake up that gameplay loop with the introduction of Seasons.

Seasons in Pokemon GO are not to be confused with either events or weather - this is a brand new system that won't replace either of those existing features. Seasons are long periods of time, usually three months (though that could change from season to season) that feature a recurring theme, special spawns, and potentially other unique features. Ideally, each individual event that takes place within a given season will fit the season's overarching themes and play into a larger narrative and theme that carries players throughout the year in the mobile AR game as seasons come and go.

Players will get their first taste of the new Seasons feature on December 1 when the Season of Celebration kicks off in Pokemon GO. It sounds like this first season will span through the first of February and will be full of exciting events, bonuses, new Pokemon, and special spawns. In addition to celebrating the new level cap increase and the restructured GO Battle League ranks, the Season of Celebration will also mark the beginning of a Kalos region takeover in Pokemon GO. Creatures from the Kalos region will be arriving at the start of the Season of Celebration and it sounds like players can expect to run into at least fifteen to twenty Kalos region Pokemon during the early days of the coming Season.

Details on what the rest of the Season of Celebration will bring should arrive in the coming weeks as the holiday season kicks off, as well as what season players might be able to expect to rotate in when February arrives. Seasons seem like a great way to offer a constant activity for players to participate in and it will be interesting to see how each Season's spawn spawn rates or Battle Raid bosses interact with other ongoing events, weather spawns, and other changes in the game.

Season Features

Different Pokémon will be appearing more often in the wild, hatching from Eggs, and appearing in raids. Some Pokémon will be more difficult to find depending on the Season, so catch them while you can!

Based on what hemisphere you’re in, you can find different Pokémon appearing in the wild each Season. For example, in the first Season, Pokémon related to winter will be appearing in the wild in the northern hemisphere, while Burmy, Darumaka, and other Pokémon related to summer will be appearing in the wild in the southern hemisphere. You might notice other differences in the Pokémon you can find in the wild, too.

In addition, different forms of Deerling will be appearing in the wild depending on which hemisphere you’re in, so keep a lookout!

In-game events will be themed based on the Season they occur in!

Seasons will be continually updated with more features and content.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and waiting for the GO Beyond update to officially arrive, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
