Pokemon GO has officially kicked off its Season of Light, which freshens up the Pokemon available in raid battles, adds a new Special Research quest for players to complete, and more. Any Pokemon GO fans interested in tackling the new challenges that await them in Season of Light can do so now, with even more content planned for the season in the months ahead.

In Pokemon GO's Season of Light, Professor Willow has returned from the Ultra Beast wormhole with legendary Pokemon Cosmog in tow. Cosmog is being introduced to Pokemon GO through a new Special Research quest called A Cosmic Companion, which will be spread out through the Season of Light. The first part of the Special Research is available now, while the second stage will kick off on October 5, and the third and final part of the Cosmic Companion Special Research will be available to Pokemon GO players beginning November 23. Anyone that plays Pokemon GO between now and December 1 at 9:59am local time can claim the Cosmic Companion Special Research for their own.

The first page of the Cosmic Companion Special Research in Pokemon GO challenges players to catch 15 Pokemon, make 10 curveball throws, and catch 15 Psychic-type Pokemon. After completing it, Pokemon GO players are rewarded with a Cosmog encounter. Three more steps are available after this, though Pokemon GO players have to wait for October 5 for the next part of the quest.

The Pokemon GO Cosmic Companion Special Research will likely be the most exciting Season of Light update for fans, but there are always raid changes to keep in mind. Niantic has rotated the Pokemon available in raids in Pokemon GO as part of the new season, with Deoxys being the headlining new attraction. Pokemon GO players can encounter various Deoxys forms from now until September 13, at which point it will be replaced by a different legendary Pokemon.

There will be other events to look forward to during the Pokemon GO Season of Light, like Medicham as the current Research Breakthrough reward and limited-time research starring Psychic/Dark-type Pokemon Inkay, as well as new Pokemon for players to catch in the wild. For now, though, Pokemon GO Season of Light is focused on introducing legendary Pokemon Cosmog to the game, and fans can catch theirs now as long as they manage to complete the Cosmic Companion Special Research quest.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
