Blanche’s Stardust Challenge took place last month in Pokemon GO and now that January has arrived another team leader is arriving to issue a challenge to trainers. This time around Spark is bringing some Timed Research to the game (to players who qualify) and offering the chance to cash in XP milestones for some item and encounter rewards.
In order to take part in the Timed XP Challenge this month, players first have to pre-purchase a ticket for Pokemon GO Tour: Johto before January 10, 2022. The ticket costs $12 (real world money, no in-game currency option) and will give players an extra batch of features and bonuses when the Johto Tour kicks off in in Pokemon GO this February.
Players who pre-purchase that Tour: Johto entry before January 10, 2022 should gain access to this month’s Timed XP Challenge. Throughout the challenge, trainers have the opportunity to work through a stack of XP milestones for increasingly powerful and exciting rewards. Most of the rewards are items, but there are five encounter rewards along the way - Cranidos, Porygon, Shedinja, Togetic, and Goomy. Some of those have been around forever, but Pokemon like Goomy still have some novelty and could provide some extra motivation to hit those higher tiers.

Reaching the top tier of 240,000 XP is no easy task, but it’s certainly achievable for players who are willing to put in some hours, burn through some Lucky Eggs, and play strategically. Completing Legendary Battle Raids with active Lucky Eggs is a great way to quickly rack up tons of XP, so keep that strategy in mind if the opportunity arises. That said, players do have plenty of other opportunities to pile on XP without PvE Battle Raids. Focusing on Catching, completing Tasks, or even PvP also can provide good paths towards max XP potential as long as players are wiilling to put in the hours and burn through the necessary items (including Lures or Incense, as needed).
At this point, that's just about everything players need to know to power through this timed research, if they decide to pre-purchase a Tour ticket and gain access to it. Players should learn much more about exact details of other activities throughout the early days of the Season of Heritage. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
