Not too long ago, Niantic decided to give Trainers a heads up as to when Pokemon GO's forthcoming winter event for 2018 begins and ends, with the video game developer also giving players their first glimpse at the bonuses on the way. Alongside this information, the PoGO studio also figured it would be a good idea to provide fans with an introduction to one of the mobile augmented reality title's newest features, Trainer Battles, with a tutorial video.

As seen in the footage below, Pokemon GO fans are shown how they can duke it out with a team leader or a nearby Trainer by opening the "Nearby" menu, tapping the "Battle" section, and scanning the opposing Trainer's unique QR Code to initiate a Trainer Battle. In addition to this, PoGO players can use the feature to take on Ultra Friends or Best Friends from anywhere, and at any time. Doing so will require one to choose from the Great League, Ultra League, and Master League, and then pick three Pokemon to participate in the duel.

The tutorial video also provides details the overall combat system, and how any Pokemon GO creature selected to partake in Trainer Battles can defend against incoming attacks by using a Protect Shield. There are a limited number of Protect Shields that can be used during the PvP activity, so players will need to be prudent as to when they utilize it.

Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of Pokemon GO's Trainer Battles comes in the rewards yielded to both the winner and the loser of the duel. Of the numerous rewards one can receive, Niantic's tutorial video for the feature shows a winner getting a Sinnoh Stone for their efforts.

Taking all of this into account, there's no doubt that myriad Pokemon GO fans who have yet to give Trainer Battles a go will be primed and ready to do so once they find the time to duel with others. The incorporation of PvP elements is certainly to be celebrated considering the lengthy amount of time the feature took to be added, but its safe to presume there are some fans out there who are more thrilled about the introduction of Gen 4 creatures.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
