Although Kyurem is the primary tier 5 Battle Raid boss for the next few weeks in Pokemon GO, that isn't stopping the Regi-trio from making a couple of appearances throughout the month of December. Each weekend a third of the trio will appear in Legendary Raid Battles for a few days, starting with Regirock showing up tomorrow to cause some trouble.

Regirock is a pretty popular Pokemon, despite mixed opinions about the relevance of the Regi-trio in the Pokemon GO metagame. That means that this weekend will be very popular for Battle Raids and trainers will be out in full force making sure that they churn through enough Battle Raids to earn an encounter with a Regirock who has an appropriately impressive IV. To do that, Pokemon GO players will take to make sure they take some time to optimize an idea counter roster for the big fight.

Regirock, as the name suggests, is a pure Rock-type, which makes understanding its counters fairly simple and there are a lot of great options. Considering the addition of some new Pokemon to the game and the new option of Mega Evolutions, many players will still want to optimize their roster once more, even if they already did so over the summer. As usual for Regirock battles, players should put their focus on Steel, Water, Fighting, Ground and Grass types. With that in mind, here are some of the top options that players should consider powering up before heading into their first Battle Raid this weekend...

Best Regirock Counters

Blastoise (Mega) - Water Gun Hydro Cannon

Venusaur (Mega) - Vine Whip Frenzy Plant

Metagross - Bullet Punch Meteor Mash

Landorus (Therian) - Mud Shot Earth Power

Groudon - Mud Shot Earthquake

Garchomp - Mud Shot Earthquake

Conkeldurr - Counter Dynamic Punch

Excadrill - Mud-Slap Earthquake

Gengar (Mega) - Lick Focus Blast

Swampert - Water Gun Hydro Cannon

As always, keep in mind that this is the ideal list of counters, but there are plenty of other acceptable choices for players who are running short on Rare Candy and TMs or just don't have a massive collection of Legendary and Mega Pokemon to select from. The most important thing is to take advantage of Regirock's weaknesses and head into the fight with a decent number of friends.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
